i actually havent bought a mini yet,
(i live in Canada, so theres not too many)
i was wondering if anyone has a mini that they love so much they would recommend it to any gamer, however unlikely that may be.
the reason i havent bought a mini is because,
i guess, casual games dont really appeal to me, also when the first batch of minis included a $10 tetris, i was incredibly disappointed,
i was expecting them to be cheaper.

ill probably have that left over money on my psn account
and usually, when that happens i just get a ps1 classic,
but can the minis compare to the ps1 classics,
of course they have better gameplay,
but for the most part it seems like theyre arcade style games,
which doesn't appeal to me all that much, when you dont have the thrill of wasting youre money everytime you play. :P
but are there minis that a hardcore gamer could also enjoy?

Well, really, I wish more were arcade type games. That's what I was hoping for out of the minis program (though I would be happy if Sony ever puts up any of the old retro collections for PS1 in the store). But most have been puzzle games or tower defense.

Anyway, I just have Tetris and that mahjong game, which I both really like, but I really like Tetris and solitaire mahjong.

If I had to pick one mini from the whole range so far I would recommend Fieldrunners. If you haven't played a tower defence (TD) game before then it is a great introduction to the genre. If you have played TD before then it is one of the best. I think it is well worth the money.

I only own two. Zombie Tycoon and Fieldrunners. I would suggest both. They both are really fun and both get progressively harder.

yeah i think i might get field runners,
i was thinking of getting hero of sparta, but after reading how its essentially a low budget version of god of war (which i dont have, but will prolly get soon), i dont think so.
i havent really gotten into the tower defense genre, the only td game ive played is south park on my friends 360, it was actually a pretty cool game, so i guess ill have to give field runners a shot.

Yeah, stay away from Hero of Sparta. Save up for God of War.

I bought South Park but have yet to even load it up. Its waiting for my next weekly game night where we have 4 people. I heard its good fun with a group of friends.

Also, I do suggest Sudoku, and maybe Tetris (if your willing to pay 10$)..

no, the south park game is for xbox 360.

well i didnt get a mini,
ive got 15$ left in my account,
and i was debating whether i should get crystal defenders (im a huge ff fan),
or field runners,
in the end i decided to save my money as im pretty sure lbp should be out for psp soon and i want to be able to get that more than anything.
it seems theres just so many major psp games coming out in the future that i cant bring myself to buy anything other than them,
maybe after i get lbp ill get fieldrunners.

I got Crystal Defenders both for Xbox and PSP. I would just get it for the Xbox, because the cursor feels faster, and the there's achievements. (Or the PS3 itself)

But Field runners is definitely a good game to spare some time.

Ok ok, So only ONE of those is a valid "mini" but they're all under 100MB's and less than $10. Those are the most important things, right??

Hmmmm, the only review of Crimson Room I saw said it was terrible (buggy and a bad port)

i couldn't help myself this weekend..... i got fieldrunners!
i find it very entertaining,
its really simple, and requires the player to do little,
but somehow rewarding.
thanks for the helpful advice all those who recommended fieldrunners. :)

so far, i like the minis program! :D

Only joking. To you guys, yes they are the most important things.

But to me it obviously pains me to see cool, fun games under 100MB and less then $10, not come out as minis. But in the end it's still good for consumers and especially all you guys.

Yeah, I know the devs can start getting paid right away for their Minis sales as opposed to waiting for Sony to make a certain amount first...

Any Idea whey those games were not released as mini's?

Maybe the developer/publisher didn't want there game to come under the Minis label. I guess this would be an option if they already had PSP Dev kit. In the case of Square Enix they would have, so no need to go the mini route.

I'm thinking price also played an important role. SE could have classified Crystal Defenders as a mini, but then it would be at the very top of the price range for a mini. By just classifying it as PSP title, it is sitting next to games costing as much as $39.99 USD so comparitively, it appears to be a value. I'm thinking that many of these developers are wary of sharing "shelf space" with some of the minis titles, most of which are priced between $4-$7 USD.

Good call David. I never thought about that before. Maybe thats why I never bought tetris after.

Then again, I'm after owning tetris for NES, SNES, Game boy, xbox, N64, Two cell phones and on my old computer. I've spent more time waiting for lines than a coke addict in Alaska.

...I'm just glad I got Vempire instead :)

id think it would be something like,
the developer says what they want it to be,
and sony puts it as whatever they requested unless sony has a problem with that.

Back on topic for this post

I just got the 3 new minis last night. So far I am agreeing with all the reviews on this website.

I would recommend Circles and Echoes...but not D-Cube. The character guy in D-Cube moves way too slow! Its really irritating. I love those types of block moving puzzle games, but this one is a drag to play.

I got a good laugh at the comments for Circles as well, I was the exact same way. I kept getting the gold medals for the first few levels without being able to understand how I was winning. I finally know how to play it now and it is fun. EXTREMELY confusing game to start off tho LOL.

Hmm, No one busted me on this yet.....

Yeah, Crimson room is NOT under 100MB's. Its actually ~130.

For some reason, I thought it was only around 30. I'll try to keep my drunken PSN shopping to a minimum from now on.....TRY.....no guarantees LOL

The best Minis (in my opinion) are: Blast Off, FieldRunners, Tetris, and Thexder NEO (I'm pretty sure that's a mini?)

Zombie Tycoon was ok, but got boring fast.

Hey 5h4d0w - you're doing the same thing I usually do. Thexter Neo isn't a mini. It may be under 100 Mb's and less than $10 but for whatever reason the Dev (squeenix I believe) didn't release it as a Mini

I still recommend Creature Def and Thexter as they are good games though....or is this website trying to promote only the lower budget minis specifically? I think we need admin's ruling on this one.

You guys can talk about whatever you like here. I'm all for recommendations for good games. I'm yet to get Creature Defence so appreciate the recommendation. I might just pick it up now.

I´ve got Stand o'food on PC. If it´s half as good on PSP Mini it´s definitely worth the money. The developer, G5 Entertainment, makes very addictive games. I hope their Super Market Mania will be released as PSP Mini as well.

I have wished for a PSP Go as X-mas gift and I would like to take the opportunity to thank you all for your game recommendations.

Hmm, this comment is against the grain, but I gotta put it up...

I really have to retract my recommendation of crimson room reverse! After playing that game for a few hours now I really hate it! I'll try to only recommend games that I've actually finished from now on :(

So as of right now my fav games were:
Circles
Vempire
Creature defense
fieldrunners
Boom Bloc (Warning: DO NOT buy on psp-go!!!!)

Before I bought my games, I did some reviews. The ones I got are: Tetris, Mahjongg, Creature Defense, Vempire and Sudoku. Needless to say, I enjoy all of them.

Tetris, Fieldrunners, Sudoku, Echoes, Puzzle Scape, Pinball Dreams and BreakQuest.

This last one is almost unplayable in PSP, but is great in PS3 thanks to the DS3 nub.
