Laughing Jackal's latest blog update, while giving status reports on Ace Armstrong's US update release and Cubixx's HD version, announces another Mini in the works, Duæl Invaders. Though the pronunciation of the cross-eye-inducing title is not detailed, it's to be "a single-screen seriously retro-themed shmup featuring awesome enemy waves and cool modes for 1 or 2 players." Single-screen shooting brings to mind Robotron 2084 and Black Widow for me.

Also, FuturLab has had a news leak from a presumably disgruntled PowerLev employee. Images abound, plus a PDF file, but no allegations of harassment.

regarding futurlab game:

hope there's some power-ups for those lasers. like some missiles or ray of fire or Nuke bombs or something . coz those lasers looked underwhelming.

darn, now the rest of us rabbitholers have nothing to feel special about!

Yet another LJ game announced!
That's 3 of theirs I'm waiting for now.
Although (presumably simultaneous) 2 player brings SCEJ's games to mind, so I'm having trouble feeling really excited for it atm.

Im definitely given Ace Armstrong a try this Tuesday and see how good the update version really is. I also cant wait for FuturLab's new project it looks really interesting. Thank you for the kick ass games thus far Laughing Jackal and FuturLab.

hmm .. i bought laughing jackal's Stellar Attack a few days ago.
and i feel a bit disappointed.
i'll play a bit more then maybe post some details.

I really enjoyed Stellar Attack. I would read the comments given in the review to find out how to get the most out of your scores ;)

Hey, now, James, Xevious doesn't have power-ups, and neither do Everyday Shooter and Robotron 2084!

Carson, I kind of assumed the 2-player mode LJ was talking about was alternating style, not head-to-head. I guess I could be wrong, of course.

This sounds great!

Just had a look through the PDF, reading about the planned control scheme, objectives and use of teleports. This game sounds fantastic! :-)

Oh, and the 2-player IS simultaneous.

Beyond that, my lips are sealed at present. Give it a couple of weeks and we'll reveal more... :)

Responding to Al: hmm, 1- and 2-player-simultaneous single-screen shooting. How about Atari's vector graphics title Space Duel? Maybe it's one of those rare simultaneous cooperative 2-players-on-1-PSP games (I think Tonzurakko was like that).

I forgot to mention this before, but I think the reason behind the "Duæl" spelling is to accommodate the meanings of both "dual" and "duel." That is, I believe the "cool modes" for 2 players include both the cooperative ("dual") and the competitive ("duel"). I note that Space Duel had both cooperative and competitive modes. If my guess is correct, I wonder if this was in any way inspired by inFAMOUS' title?

Of course, I do wonder how they'll write the title in standard ASCII press releases. "Duael" doesn't look so good.

I similarly messed around with characters in my title submissions to FuturLab.
