I was just synching Minis save files from my PS3 to my PSP when I noticed something odd, and new. The Minis save file management utility on the PS3, when reading my PSP's Memory Stick, was able to see and manage (i.e., I did a copy to the PS3 successfully) non-Minis PSP save files! When did this happen? It must be from a recent firmware update; a short time ago, I wondered if the PS3's Minis save file manager had always said "Minis/PSP" as it does now. I checked my old-firmware PS3 and confirmed that it had not; the utility used to say only "Minis," and the icon was a folder with a hole in the shape of a DualShock silhouette in it on top of the word "Minis," instead of the current icon's folder with a hole in the shape of a PSPgo silhouette, with no text under it. And, the old firmware's utility only sees Minis save files, not those of any non-Minis PSP games.
Two questions, then:
1. When did that change happen?
2. Is this a sign that non-Minis PSP games will soon be playable on the PS3 (and I don't mean the enhanced, PS3-native HD rebuilds)?
I guess no one but Sony really knows the answer to the second question, and they're unlikely to comment. But, it's an intriguing change. Unfortunately, a USB UMD reader for the PS3 doesn't seem like something Sony will ever make.
