For size comparison to the various PSP models:
NGP:
182.0 x 18.6 x 83.5mm
PSP-1000:
170 x 23 x 74mm
PSP-2000/PSP-3000:
169 x 19 x 71mm
PSPgo:
128 x 16.5 x 69mm
So, slightly slimmer than a slim PSP, over a centimeter wider and taller. Not exactly pocket-sized, but then, neither is any PSP except the PSPgo.
There are only two things that are wrong with the PSP2 according to an article by IGN that I was reading a few days ago. The PSP2 overheats and the battery is lasting only 2 hours. Sony engineers are working on the overheating issue, and the battery problem. But I have one question, how in hell are those joysticks not going to break off, when you put it in your pocket? The PSP has nubs but the PSP2 has real joysticks and 2 of them, and they stick out so they seem like the joysticks can break off when you put the PSP2 in your pants or in a tight space.
Well, that IGN article is old. Apparently the original design, which was a slider like the PSPGO, overheated. So they went with the "brick" design.
And according to Eurogamer, the battery lasts 4 to 5 hours (which is lower than Sony wanted, but more than 2 hours obviously).
Man, I havent even had my Big Boss PSP that long...WTF!
Well the 3DS can only do 3-4 hours and is not as powerful as the PSP2. Did anyone else notice that Nintendo's stock market when down 44%, the very same day the PSP2 was announced. Interesting hmmmmmmm.
EEDAR's Jesse Divnich estimates NGP will cost $300 to $350. Here is the link: PSP2 price
I will buy a PSP2 if its stays on that price range.
Sony wants NGP out in 'at least one territory' by end of holiday 2011. Link Here: PSP2
My guess is Japan will get it first.
After seeing the PSP2 and what is capable of doing, I cant look at my PSP the same way anymore, it looks so outdated now, is weird =(
@Onmode-ky
I have big pockets :p
The PSP2 looks great, trophies + friends was a given though.
Interesting, but it's going to be very expensive for a handheld. The only game I'm interested in is Wipeout too and there's not a single screenshot of it.
@Freelance
Just Wipeout?
Given the power of it and all it will be doing, 4 to 5 hours is pretty good.
This thing is getting alot of good buzz around the web, and I love it!
Didn't they talk about cloud gaming also? I know Kojima has been on this whole thing about cloud gaming as of late, stating something along the lines of, gaming shouldn't be tied down by home consoles, that he believed gaming will one day come to the point where you could start a game at home on a console, and take it with you on an airplane, something like that. Then at the annoucement he said he was working on something that would help realize that dream. Do you guys think the NGP will support cloud gaming?
I wonder if Kevin Butler will be in charge of promo duties?! I swear Sony, If I see Marcus Rivers...POW! Right in the kisser!
NGP 'concept video'.
@Ofaliss
Im with you on that one man, I if I ever see that annoying kid screaming at me to buy a PSP, I will kick his ass. Sony please hire someone else for the PSP commercials.
On other PSP2 related news, “No Battery Changing for PSP2 Because of Pirates”. Sony is pulling all the stops this time around and they want their PSP2 to be harder to hack.
Here is the link: PSP2 pirates beware
Yakuza 4 video, this time the video is very clear, and freaking impressive. Yakuza 4 PSP2
WOW! I think the world is about to end. I never thought I would see the day, when the Sankaku Complex trolls would actually seem excited about anything Sony did. They hate pretty much everything that isn't Nintendo or hentai related!
@Ofaliss
Yep, they hate anything but Nintendo or hentai lol. I guess Sony did impress them this time around with the PSP2, hell that device even impress John Carmack and he hates Sony.
The Go was released in NA and Europe a month before it was released in Japan. I wish that would happen again.
While I'm on the subject of the Go, I'm starting to wonder something. The Go came out of no where, even though I have one and love it, even I scratched my head when it was first announced. People often wondered, "What in the hell was Sony thinking?", bear with me on this, what if the Go was Sony's way of saying, "The PSP2 is on the way, and you will be ale to play your PSP games on it, but they have to be the downloaded version."?
I could be giving Sony too much credit on that one, but I'm glad I don't have an issue with downloading games. By the time the NGP comes out, I'll likely still have PSP games saved that I haven't even played yet.
@Balrog
Yeah. Still, it's one more than what I saw of the 3DS. I don't want any of the games mentioned for that handheld.
@Shazbots
lol! the psp2 pirate link .. i cant help but be distracted by the links/ads on that page.
i realise lots of psp haters are coming out of their holes now (on other sites)
as usual , comparing it with nintendo/iphone/whatever
they're saying that psp2 is too big , but at the same time is praising their even bigger ipad.
whatever.
cant wait for it to come out.
I know what you mean. i have seen soo much negativity regarding the new PSP. It all seesm so misinformed. I personly love playing games on my iPad, but I still love the PSP for those hardcore gaming moments when you need physical controls. When I was reading the specs of the NGP, and watching the videos, and looking at the images, I have to confess to crying with excitement. I may have even messed my pants a little. I just wish there was a way to get it now, and not have to wait an entire year. Wheres my delorean :)
it's true
I don't really get PSP's bad rep
it sold 60 million pieces and counting, has stellar games so what is the problem?
why do people keep screaming that it doesn't sell and has no games?
people have been saying the damned thing is dead since it launched and everytime some blockboster launhes there are comments like 'well I've gotta dust off my PSP now!'
I don't know where these people keep there psp's but damn, they have to clean that space more often because dust collects impressively fast!
I dare say the handheld has better games then the DS for the past couple of years and yet it has disappeared allmost completely off the shelves here in the hague!
I think Sony needs to write Nintendoo or PSPissanto just to sell it
that device even impress John Carmack and he hates Sony
I've never read anything about Carmack hating (or even disliking) Sony. Are you sure you're not thinking of Gabe Newell (who seems to have changed his view of Sony quite a bit nowadays)?
One thing I haven't seen discussed is region protection. I get the feeling, though, that since we'll just be using our existing PSN accounts, the NGP will be as region-free as the PSP and PS3.
That said, UMD video had region-locking. Will this new physical media format even be used for video distribution at all?
I have big pockets :p
I hope they're big and deep! :P
I doubt they will be releasing movies on the flash cards. Especially since movies you buy from PSN can be viewed on your PC, the PSP, the PS3, and undoubtedly the NGP (I wish they would officially name it already).
What ever happened to the Music UMD's?
and filled with money!
it's too big imo, not going to be with me 24/7 like my psp Go is now that's for sure but maybe playstation suite and a nice android phone
still have my mind set on that xperio thing we've been talking about if only they announced the damned thing :D
Xperia Play will just be a PlayStation Suite enabled device.
all android 2.3 machines will be android enabled apperantly
but this one has buttons :D
it's more compatible with psp2 I think
One thing I want clarified though. Are games going to be available in stores on those little flash cards or are the games DL only? The articles confused me with their wording. Are saves also stored on them do you need a memory stick as usual?
Freelance, yes, the "New Game Media" (no official name yet) will be the retail software presence for the NGP. Supposedly, they will have room onboard for saves and DLC, but the system will also support more general-use, blank flash media (not confirmed to be Memory Stick or any other format).
@ sp3c
Of course we're following this :-)
M.
I was indeed wondering earlier why no one had made any mention of Frima being on the list of third-party developers and publishers working on stuff for the NGP.
How long have you guys had the dev kit? If we kill sp3c, like, 1000 times, will you tell us a little about what you're doing with it? What if we kill and desecrate his body 1000 times?
Here's an interesting question: have you been calling it "NGP" internally, or was that a name Sony just recently came up with?
