@CRyan1997
All of Sony's Memory Stick formats are propriety but there are 3rd party adaptors that allow you to convert standard SD Card format memory cards so that they are readable in the propriety Memory Stick slots.
For this reason, once the PS Vita memory card format is known, then it will only be a matter of time before adaptors appear on the market that convert SD Cards into PSV cards.

Alright Thanks Volcane

this is stupid. If they aren't going to use internal memory (which I wouldn't liked since they wouldn't just go over and above with 32gb), they should really use an established format. I bought a SanDisk memory stick magicgate pro duo since it was $10 bucks cheaper. I don't want to have to pay inflated prices for PSV memory stick. I know it will only be a matter of time before you can get knock-offs, but I've had bad experience with 3rd party memory cards on PS1/2. Hopefully since they are making it exclusive they will offer 16 or 32gb cards for less than 50. Otherwise, I'm going to remain content with my PSP for at least another year or two, if not indefinitely.

I've mostly got SanDisk Memory Sticks, and I've never had any issues with them (after all, they're actually in the business of making storage devices, unlike the peripherals makers that sold memory cards for previous-generation game systems). I imagine they'll make quality storage for the PSV as well. If not . . . well, let's not return to the days when Sony PS2 memory cards were the only really dependable models but were $25 for 8 MB.
I foresee being content with my PSP even if I ever get another handheld. :) Speaking of which, today is the third anniversary of my getting my PSP-2000.

August will be one year for my Big Boss PSP. Sweet coming home gift. And only paid $199.99 for it. Have you seen the damn prices now for that thing?

I've had my PSP go for just over a year now and honestly I think its much better than the reviews its got 8/10 for me. My first PSP was my 1000 that I got for christmas 2004 than a 2000 in like 2007 and then my go :)

I've heard release dates in the UK could be as early as 28 October.
Posted 6 years ago # -
No problem Random.
@chapnis
That would be awesome for all the UK dwellers. If I was the import type, I would get one if it turns out to be true.Posted 6 years ago # -
if it launches in the UK before us mainlanders get to buy it then I'm importing one myself!!
fly in, watch some hockey (Cardiff maybe), drink myself into a coma at some pub and fly back in the morning
good times ... if not, I still might do that because it's been a while :D

I think I'm gonna make a hard choice here and wait to buy this when it comes out. I'll be ok, you guys go on ahead. Dont look back. I'll grab one later. Besides, I'll have 2 brand new handhelds to play with anyway. Dont need a 3rd right away. ;)

I'm still on the fence. The price isn't likely to drop anytime soon, but look at the PSP1000. There were so many flaws there, I'm wondering if I shouldn't wait for the second release.
Posted 6 years ago # -
Outside of the 1000's off square button, and occasional dead pixels there wasn't anything necessarily wrong with the device. It was heavy, but back in 2004 that's the best way you could enclose that technology.
Posted 6 years ago # -
I wasn't thinking of the weight, or even the slightly larger size. I was alluding to the horrible battery life and ridiculous load times.
Posted 6 years ago # -
Dead pixles are a big deal for me. I'm waiting for a second release. It'll be smaller and a little more badass.

Guys heres a look at what the memory card looks like I cant make out what format it is but maybe you guys can. http://ie.gear.ign.com/articles/117/1174044p1.html its the second last picture

They look a bit like SD cards... but no way would Sony make it that easy for us!
It's probably a brand new card format made by Sony... of course! :(Posted 6 years ago # -

Here is my view on the Vita.
The PSP is one of the last portables to feature a non touch screen controller based system. It's not an iphone. And that's how I like it. Call me old school, I like buttons.
The Vita had better have awesome control. If the control system, such as touch sensitive shoulders with no buttons, or the screen, is flawed in some way, I will dislike it.
If on the other hand, it is built well with tight controls, that means the new games have the potential to be good.
I also think it's release price is too expensive for a handheld, and I hope the price drops fairly quickly.
Nintendo tends to be innovative, first to do touch screens, first to do 3d, Sony tends to be solid. So if they can improve the control that would be good. I also don't want games where I constantly have to be touching the screen, and I hope that some releases will ignore the touch screen entirely.

Uncharted is supposed to give the option to use the touchscreen for some segments, but you're supposed to always be able to use the button control scheme as well. I liked the look of the littlebigplanet touch controls myself. You pull down on springs to do things such as launch your character, as well as pushing objects into the fore/background using the screen and the rear touchpad.
I personally am stoked at the suggested $250 price tag. Since it has the front and rear cameras I see it more like a smartphone then just a devoted gaming system. Maybe not as a phone but the possibility of useful apps like maps. I'm tempted to pay the extra $50 and get the 3g model in case I eventually choose to sign a data plan.
Does anyone know which Canadian cell provider is going to be supporting this?

Since the 3DS' price drop, I've noticed a lot of, "Vita is priced too high for a handheld.", comments. Nothing wrong with having an opinion, it's your God given right, but come on...
No offense to you taoofgreentea. You could have very well felt it was too expensive before the 3DS price drop, and there's nothing wrong with that at all. It's the people who jumped ship after the price drop that I look at with the stink eye.

The PSP launched at $250 as well, and that will have been 7 years before the launch of the PSV. I think it's a good price for the PSV feature set; at launch, the PSP's capabilities were far less than what they are today, which in turn are far less than what the PSV will be able to do at its launch. One of the reasons I ended up never getting the DS, which I kept thinking I would eventually get, is that, after seeing what the PSP could do, I simply could not justify spending almost as much money on a device which did markedly less. Sure, it had a great library of games, many of which I was quite interested in, but I was willing to wait for the price to drop to a level I thought was more appropriate . . . which seems to have never happened. I mean, the PSP now costs even less than the DS (in the US, anyway).

The titles that are being announced for Vita just keep getting better!
Take a look at the trailer for Escape Plan, if you haven't already.
Posted 6 years ago # -
i'll be happy to get some PS2 classics on PSV! hope they give that to us soon, or at least have some kind of announcement.

I've read that the HD collections like the Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill ones, will make it to Vita. It's unconfirmed, by me anyways, but it would be a step in the right direction.
