There\'s a few Overrated ones and the most in my opinion is Call of Duty. I\'ve played COD 1,4,5,6,7 and 8 and they don\'t change much in my opinion. Really fast deaths and just plain old FPS gameplay. I did like the campaign for COD 1 though. So list a few franchises that you think are overrated and that you\'ve actually played.

I beat you to it a year ago bud. My opinion has changed a bit since I originally posted the thread. I\'ve tried to post the link, but the site is acting freaking stupid again and not letting me post the link. That and those damn slashes are really staring to irk me. But I\'m digressing.
Even though I\'ve never played an Uncharted game, I have to speak on it. When it gets to the point where reviewers start saying things like, \"Buy it because it\'s Uncharted, even though it\'s not that great of a game.\", the franchise is overrated as hell. Of course I\'m paraphrasing, but that is the gist of almost every review of Uncharted: Golden Abyss.
CoD has since shot its way to the top of my list of overrated games. MW3 is one of the most horrible gaming experiences I\'ve ever had the bad luck of having. It started out okay, then Christmas came around and the d bags and little a**holes came out to play. Exposing Infinity Wards lack of giving a f@$* about rewarding skill and a content on providing tools for people with little to no skill to play like b*tches.
The community is CoD\'s biggest problem, and the developers providing the tools for people to just be annoying as hell comes in very close behind it.

Uncharted just gets on my nerves, even though I\'ve never even seen it in person, much less played it. The fans of it are like Trekkies or more recently, Firefly fans. Just get on my nerves.
But I think Bioware is a really overrated company. Their games are so formulaic, they basically just change settings.

Ironic, because a few years back one of Bioware\'s co-founders made this comment...
The fall of the JRPG in large part is due to a lack of evolution, a lack of progression,

This is why I said franchises that you\'ve played. I like Uncharted for what it is. A Indiana Jones game with good graphics and a decent story. I mean I could say Halo is overrated just because it\'s Microsoft\'s best franchise.

Well, if we\'re talking games that the rest of the gaming world loves but which I never got into . . . the original NES\' Super Mario and Zelda. The former made me think I was no good at all video games (turns out I just suck at platformers), for over a decade, while the latter was completely confusing to me. No idea what I was supposed to be doing when I first played it.
Of course, it\'s not so much that they\'re overrated as I\'m just not good at them, I suppose.
Also, before I played Shogo: Mobile Armor Division, I\'d heard it described as several people\'s favorite FPS game. After beating it, my impression was more like \"I guess it\'s fun, but I wouldn\'t even list it as a great game, much less a favorite.\"
PSPMinis.com will happily tell you that P.O.W. - Prisoners of War is overrated, because it\'s literally the highest-rated Mini in the NA PS Store.
Oh, Dragon\'s Lair is overrated. Seriously, while the game looks amazing to spectators because of the near-seamless animation, it\'s absurdly tedious to play.

Skyrim...AB... FF...DQ...CoD...BF...

AB? BF? What are these?
Dragon Quest? I didn\'t even find out about the series until viii on ps2Posted 1 year ago # -

Have you guys ever hated a game you've never even played so much, that it literally causes you physical pain? Well I have, and that game is Skyrim. Whenever I see or hear that name I want to ignorantly rage at the person who mentioned it, like a fanboy defending his system of choice. I was looking at the Dragon's Dogma IGN review on YouTube, and a top comment was about how people now care about RPGs because of Skyrim. Really, dude!?

Kingdoms of Amalur made me forget I had Skyrim. Too bad the company recently went under.

I think we can all agree, AB is way overrated on any platform. Especially the PSP, they re-release it and try to scam you for your money. WTF!!!

Over-rated gaming franchises? I'll say one word that covers a whole bunch for me.
Nintendo

No No No, Nexus you can't be talking about Golden Sun. I agree with you on most, but not all like Golden Sun.

Co-signed +1.
For me, if it isn't The Threepeat Retreat (Mario, Pokemon, & Zelda) I have no problems with it. Retreats I got problems with.

I agree on Mario (haven't played any Pokemon games at all) but from the only Zelda game I've played more than 5 minutes and beaten (Phantom Hourglass) I don't think it's overrated. Phantom Hourglass, Age of Empires and Scribblenauts were the only three games I actually liked a lot on the DS.

I linked this thread to Angry Birds, LMAO!

skyrim was an okay game filled with bugs, everybody talks about it like its the second coming though. The whole UNTIL I TOOK AN ARROW IN THE KNEE LOLLOLLOLLLLL thing makes me super mad too , its worse than the cake is a lie. Though the most over rated franchise is Halo. 1,2, were good 3 was okay and evedything else was awful. The fact that microsoft has 4,5, and 6 coming out soon makes me even angrier, let MC rest. At least uncharted has a cool setpieces, great voice actors and good stories, newer halos have none of those.
@darthdanman the ds zeldas were the worst nintendo made zeldas, if you thought they were good I cant wait until you try ocarina, majoras mask and a link to the past. I've literally beaten ocarina a hundred times and it keeps getting better.

What pisses me off about Skyrim was that I did some work on Daggerfall (tester mostly, but I did make some of the buildings, and contributed a story in one of the books in the game), then parted ways with them. If only I had known it was going to one day be so popular...

Assasins Creed.
Gran Theft Auto - Any after 3 suck.
Sonic - used to be good, once I think.
Gran Turismo
Any Lego related stuff
Mortal Kombat
Monster HunterI could go on and on I think....
Posted 1 year ago # -
@Jeremy, I used to love Daggerfall, now that is a game, HUGE.
Posted 1 year ago # -
nowadays Mario and Zelda seems to have lost something for me, especially Mario, older Zelda games was fun and that's about it. when i heard about another Mario game i was like: already? didn't we have one not that long ago? oh well, time to look for more niche games...

I think they announced two... How many times can you save one princess?
Posted 1 year ago # -
Nintendo was not that overrated before. The GBA is my favorite system ever. I just got a GBA emulator and Nintendo was great. Probably my favorite. The Golden Sun series is just perfect, and Fire Emblem was amazing. Advance Wars, Mother 3, Metriod Zero Mission, Metroid Fusion, The Legend Of Zelda: A Link To The Past, Kingdom Hearts: Chain Of Memories are all roms that I own and love (Except for Kingdom Hearts: Chain Of Memories, that rom keeps on freezing). Even the Mario games were playable.

How many times can you save one princess?
That one line sums up a major problem with Nintendo. That one line alone describes TWO IP's they keep pumping out like weed to potheads. Mario and Zelda.
Then fans of those franchises have the nerve to complain about the next FPS, the next Madden, the next Halo, the next Assassins Creed. But it's like, NO, little person! Just no...
Nintendo has one of the most diverse line of franchises out there, but they settle for the same thing. Like I said before, you can't really blame them, blame the people that keep eating it up. At least Sega only pumps out one IP. Into the ground some might say, but still.
I want F-Zero on the 3DS dang it, not another Mario game! At least Fire Emblem Awakening is coming to NA.
On the subject of Sega. I miss them so freaking much. I miss the can't have more fun anywhere else, arcade games Sega. Back when they gave you such hits as Daytona USA, Crazy Taxi, Panzer Dragoon, Shenmue, Jet Set Radio, Space Channel 5, they where God like to me. Even now, I have more Sega published games than anything else. I can not wait to download Jet Set radio onto my Vita. I'm trying to find a fairly cheap copy of Jet Set Radio Future.

Go Fire Emblem!
Posted 1 year ago # -
Zelda games are actually not very frequent, but Mario, yes, that's a series that's too prolific. Just from Nintendo at this E3, there were 3 Mario games announced/shown, as well as one for Luigi.
Posted 1 year ago # -
Regarding Fire emblem, I read from China's game mag that it was very good, highest recommendation was S... Looking better for 3ds and us FE fans
Posted 1 year ago # -
What pisses me off is when a game gets rated and points are taken away because there wasn't much of a story in the game, but then a new Mario game comes out with the same save the princess or whatever pointless "plot" and they all rave for how good it is and never once mention that there is no story whatsoever. Personally if a game is good I could care less about the story, if I want a story I'll read a book, I just can't stand how hipocritical they are about it.
