So yeah, what did you get for Christmas. Couldn\'t find an existing thread unless I am blind.

Sadly my family and relatives don\'t buy any gifts to each other, only kids (if any) and I am no longer a kid so I get squat. I have no friends in the city so I don\'t get presents from them either.

I\'m forced to buy my own gifts every birthday/Christmas and this year I got this:

It\'s a Dragon Mutant from the French company Papo. Very nice detail and pose.

My online friends decided to be nice and buy me all sorts of digital PC games this year. Most of them are oldies (but goodies):

Wing Commander (asteroids keep killing me)
Wing Commander 2 (asteroids still keep killing me)
Wing Commander 3 (asteroids no longer kill me and I\'m getting better)
Police Quest (remake version. Awesome.)
Police Quest 2 (I hate text parsers in adventure games)
Police Quest 3 (haven\'t played it yet)
Police Quest 4 (haven\'t played it yet)
Guilty Gear X2 #Reload (smooth animation and gamepad works fine)
Tex Murphy: The Pandora Detective (haven\'t played it yet)
Blur (Like Wipeout but with real/licensed cars)
Braid (haven\'t played it yet)
Dungeons of Dredmor (pretty cool)
Trainz Classic 3 (very cool but there\'s no waterfalls :(
Day of Defeat: Source (Valve gave it to me. Didn\'t want it so I traded it off)
Puzzle Chronicles (Prize from Steam contest. Don\'t want it either)

Also I got 2 Redwall books on Boxing Day. Yay for 50% off coupons!

P.S. Here are two screenshots from the Trainz Classic 3 model I am working on.

Still very incomplete.

Well I also buy myself gifts. But my family got me an Android phone, very happy with that phone, a pair of pants,steel toe boots =)), and a PS3 Slim yayyy for me finally (I bought that for myself), and a very cool Wall-E figure from revoltech Wall-E. It was a good Christmas =)))

Hello all,

I was lucky enough to get a pair of Heelys from my girlfriend. Adult size 11 (UK 10). Now I need to work out how to use them without looking like an idiot. Might be impossible, but I\'m going to try anyway.

Also spent the xmas period making a trailer for our upcoming (March 7th) space shooter game for minis. Very excited by this because the soundtrack is being produced (and co-written) by Joris de Man of Killzone fame. Can\'t wait to show you folks more.

i just got

- nintendo 3DS (unit + games) - my gift to myself XD
- 5 in 1 arcade for 1 buck (PSP mini) - gift from GripGames
- kyros coby mid7016 7\" (android tablet) - won from a christmas raffle... my first android device ever, so i really don\'t know how to use... i\'ve been using a symbian phone for 8 years now...

I too buy myself Christmas gifts, bought myself a sweet new pocket knife! Once you become a Boy Scout, the need to have a pocket knife sticks with you for life! I also got Resonance of Fate for myself (loving it right now).

I got a few shirts, a new pair Pumas, and underwear (which I freaking love getting)!

I have been meaning to by Blur for the 360, I had a blast with the beta back when it first released.

Speaking of online friends, I\'m happy to see my Live friends are actually playing something other than freaking CoD these days. It got to the point I was about to delete every single person who only played CoD, but I guess they finally figured out that if you\'ve played one for a whole freaking year, you\'ve played them all.

looks like most of us buys ourselves stuff, lets see:

imported the Rockman Dash value Pack (Megaman Legends in US)
FFX guide (i missed so much in 5-6 hours that i might need to start over again... >_>)
some minis and games from the current sale
my mother gave me some $$$ so i should be able to get a Ipod touch or something...

Yeah, you definitely need a guide for X, especially if you want all of their Ultima Weapons (I don\'t the they are called Ultima Weapons, but whatever) Anima, and the Magus Sisters. Though getting the Magus Sisters may not be as hard to get as I\'m thinking they are.

Celestial weapons O-man, although Ultima is there as spell so its quite exciting. looks like i m gonna be spending about 100+ hrs on this game...and then again when i have a Vita.

My wife got me a ton of Microsoft points and PSN money. Live Gold card. Gears 3 and ODST. Some bomb a$$ Aerpostale underwear. A freakin $100 dollar gift certificate to Sunglass Hut, sweet. Clothes, safety kit for my truck. Sweet new router that I soooo needed. Also a new pocket knife. Willow Tree New Dad figure. Laser level with tape measure built in. Flex head drill attachement for my Dewalt. My sweet new laptop. And a bunch of other things you guys probably don\\\'t care about. I made out like a bandit.

Looks like everyone got some neat crap this year. I\\\'m having fun making my own virtual model railroad.

Honestly I didn\'t think anyone would have bought presents for themselves. My sister thinks it\'s stupid.

My family gave me money (not very origonal I know, but... ) and with said money I got PSN vouchers to get games.
My good friends got me Devil May Cry anime DVD, Tron Legecy on DVD and a Boondock Saints graphic noval. ;)

Hey everyone! Good ole Saint Nick was very practical with me this year. I got clothes, a bank & an 8 gb usb flash-drive. Well, I could always use more memory, & clothes is always useful. I also got myself stuff from the recent psn sale, so I\'m pretty satisfied this year. Now while we\'re on the topic of Christmas gifts, I\'d have to say that my favorite gift would have to have been Dissidia: Final Fantasy which I got a few years ago. Being a visually impaired gamer, there aren\'t many Final Fantasy games I can play. The Dissidia series r the only exceptions I know of so far, so I was exceedingly pleased to have received it, & I played the game religiously for hours & hours for days unending. No other fighting game could satisfy me in the way that Dissidia did. Naturally, I purchased the second in the series, & though the overworld is a pain in the rear for me to navigate, I still think that it\'s a great game. O yes: if any of u have any questions about gaming without the use of vision or about blind gamers in general, please feel free to ask. I get them all the time from my friends & other people that I meet, so I don\'t mind answering them.

Unlike other Final Fantasy games (& Dissidia Duodecim to some extent), which require a lot of navigating in the overworlds & dungeons, Dissidia was a game who\'s focus was mostly on fighting & story, with all the other rpg elements thrown in for good measure. And even though the fighting took place in a fully 3d environment, the command mode made it especially easy for visually impaired players like myself & others to cope. Sure there were a lot of menus, but the best thing to do in such a situation is just to memorize where everything is, & they didn\'t wrap if u held the d-pad down, so it was possible to count how many items were in that menu.
As to the extent of my impairment, I have total blindness in both eyes, & it has been so since my birth.

Hearing that makes me think pretty highly of you manslayer. Not letting your blindness prevent you from enjoying the same things everyone else does. I have glaucoma and without surgery or the use of medicated eye drops, I will lose my sight. Surgery is out of the question at the moment, so I use the drops.

I\'m one of the lucky 1 in 200 to have the disease aged 50 and younger. Yay me...

That\'s right, I can see nothing. But I\'m not the type to let that stop me from enjoying the things that everyone else enjoys. There\'s no game I won\'t try once, & if I can\'t play it, then o well, there\'s loads of other games I can still play. I also have a friend who (unlike me) recently lost his sight, so coping with it is a little more difficult for him, but he (like me) grew up playing games & wasn\'t willing to give that up, so he still plays. If anyone deserves thinking highly of, I\'d say that he\'d be the one. I was just using what I\'d already had to begin with, but if I were to lose that which I had, I think I\'d be scared to death.

The forums r a simple matter. Currently, I am using a screen reading program on my pc which reads pretty much anything that\'s displayed on the screen, (with exception to graphics), & let\'s me know whatever I\'m typing. This way, I can surf the net, transfer files, create & edit documents, etc. without too much of a problem.
As for the game menus, that\'s where things get a little complicated. If there\'s a sighted person around, (like my brother for example), I kindly request that they read off the menus for me, & I start memorizing them. If not, I begin experimenting with the menus & see where they take me, or I refer to game walkthroughs to explain what & where the menus r & what is contained therein, (like I did with Riviera: The Promise Land).

I thought you used some sort of screen reader so I didn\'t ask that, but I noticed you talking about movies in another thread and was wondering if you just listen to videos? I hope your friend can cope because I don\'t even want to think about losing my sight...

Yes, I can listen to a movie & get a good idea of what\'s going on from the dialog. And in some cases, there\'s audio description, wherein the soundtrack & effects r edited to allow a narrator to describe everything that is currently happening on screen without interference. If I go to see something like say a musical, play, or even the local movie theater, all that would be done through a headset so it doesn\'t get in the way of the main audience.
As for my friend, I agree, & he is coping.

Haha that\'s okay. Threads usually do that. How good is that screen reading thingie that you use? Has it ever said a wrong word before or anything?

Anyway I am impressed you can do all this even when blind. Kudos to you.

Oh, and I bought Trainz 2009 and Murchison 2 add on pack in Steam.

Yeah, there r plenty of times when the screen reader says something that doesn\'t make sense & I have to make it spell out the word a letter @ a time. It more than often mispronounces words of another language that r spelled using english letters. And it can\'t recognize the past & present tense usage of the word \"Read\" since they r spelled the same. But all these r minor issues once u get use to them.

lol Nope. It doesn\'t, at least not mine. Mine kind\'ve reminds me of a secretary working at the front desk. Voice types vary depending on the type of screen readers used. I\'m sure that there\'s probably one out there that sounds like his does. Now that I think about it, while in school, I once used a portable device with a voice similar to his. Nowadays though, voices have begun to become more complicated, able to express the proper tonal inflections, such as when there is a question mark or an exclamation at the end of a sentence. Some (but not all) of the voices for Microsoft\'s SAPI 5 engine on windows xp almost sound human.
