Not normally one to have my feathers ruffled but I felt compelled to say something about the “Minis Round-up” in this month’s (Issue 48) Official PlayStation Magazine. Now I understand that the mag is independent of Sony (or so we are led to believe). But surely if they want to make the download side of PSN as successful as XBLA then they need to keep supporting it. So why review for games from the download section and effectively trash them. Now I know minis aren’t the big thing on PSN and for a mag space is limited. It just felt like Rachel (the reviewer) had spent as much time playing the games as it took me to read the reviews (about 10 secs). It really won’t give the developers the incentive to support this great medium for new ideas. Especially when they read the closing line from the “Mini of the month” Tehra: Dark Warrior - “Or you could forget all that and use your £4 to buy a Happy Meal instead”

It's a shame they took that attitude :-(

Given the currency, I'm going to assume it's the UK PlayStation Magazine. Now is it the official one run by Future Publishing, or one of the non-Sony endorsed ones?
Outside of Tehra, what else did they review? What were the scores for them?

Hi Takao,
Sorry yes it is the Future UK mag. They also reviewed Gold Fever (5/10), Vibes (4/10), Sanke Warriors: Training (5/10) and Tehra: Dark Warrior (5/10).
No mention in the reviews of these being assessed as low budget titles or if the scores were compared against full titles. Everything was reviewed by Rachel Penny the News Editor.

I stoped buying that mag years ago... I just stick with Play, it's a much better mag. ;)

I can comprehend the hate for most of those titles (even if I dont share those opinions), but what was the reason for the hate with vibes? why did it get extendended hate?
I believe that for the target audience (fans of the rhythm genre) it really does nothing wrong, its only flaw is not having the best accessibility to people outside the target audience (but as the audience is pretty large since the popularity of those games is pretty large).I cant believe how close minded she is! People like her are the worst in the videogame industry, people who don't respect the littler guys.
just because a game doesn't have a $100k budget doesnt mean that the developers have any less love for the videogame industry, it doesnt mean that they dont want to see it grow and evolve any less than anyone else. So why cant she understand that these are fun games?Posted 1 year ago # -
I hate the way that magazine is dismissive of Minis and a lot of titles that some handheld players would consider good. They are so ps3-centric that you are lucky to see some new Psp releases get a review atall never mind a positive one.some minis are junk, agreed but the nature of the medium deserves to be encouraged so that more small developers will come the fore. This period of time in the Psp's lifespan reminds me of the illfated but ace Dreamcast. The people in the know are happy to follow a fantastic machine even though it gets no or little love from the press.Psp rocks and we are lucky to have minis. So lets keep buying them and balls to Opm.
