I am super stoked about this game. I hope it hits the US soon though. Will we get the cheaper price also Paddy? I mean, even at 5 bucks it sounds good, but I'll take it for 4.

I'm finding this to be pretty fun, but one thing really gnaws at me. It's sort of like Tetris (falling blocks and all), but the controls are completely different from Tetris.
In Tetris, you move the d-pad down to move/slam the blocks down quickly, and the face buttons to rotate the blocks.
In this, you use the X button to move/slam the blocks down, and then the L and R shoulder buttons to rotate the blocks (and then the other buttons for the power ups).
It's not necessarily made, it makes sense given the mechanics of the game. But when you have played a game for 20+ years you get used to a certain sort of controls. So when a somewhat similar game comes along that has different controls, it's a bit of a struggle.
(That said, it's a lot of fun. Loading times are a bit rough though)

It didn't come out in NA this week :( Was looking forward to this.

Thanks Jeremy,
Yeah the mechanics themselves are quite different to Tetris. In Tetris it benefits you to get rid of rows - whereas in this it requires you to build large groupings of blocks to set off chains. It really is more akin to Puzzle Fighter. We originally had the d-pad control the blocks moving down, but it felt cluttered considering that the gameplay mechanics and controls were so different in almost every other way than Tetris.
As for the Loading times, yeah it was hard considering that we were loading in full paintings as opposed to small little assets, but yeah they can be tough. Also, I think it contains more music than any other Mini, possibly... I can't confirm this - There are 20 Music Tracks in it and hopefully the soundtrack will be available on iTunes soon.
Cheers for your feedback Jeremy,
Looking forward to the review so much! :DOh Yeah, Balrog, ESRB license is an issue for us as a small developer. if they accepted builds (Like Pegi in the EU) to verify the game content this would be coming out next week in NA, but because they dont we've had to jump through hoops to get the content in the format that they require. Sony America are helping us to get this sorted as soon as possible and we hope you enjoy it when it does release soon in NA.
The game launches here in the EU today at some stage, probably after 5 so looking forward to chatting with you all and finding out your opinions, high scores and more!
Thanks guys,

Sweet djax! Super excited to see what you think, man! :D
It's crazy this is so mental for us, we've been waiting so long for release that it feels like the game doesnt even really exist ha ha!

PSN store is live now, but I cant find your game :-(. I am from Czech republic, and on the PSN blog is:
Mad Blocker Alpha: Revenge of the Fluzzles (£3.49/€3.99 introductory offer, £3.99/€4.99 from 15th February) Rating: PEGI 3
Availability: Not available in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Russian Federation, Spain and Switzerland
So I should be avaliable in Czech, but is not :-(.
Posted 2 years ago # -
I think it's just not on yet. My mate Ross at SCEE said it would be phased on between 3 and 5 :P
Thanks dude, you should see it soon, hope you like it... We have to get it localised for those other countries too :P

It's a big update today. Some highly anticipated games up today so closer to 5pm GMT would be your best bet.
Posted 2 years ago # -
It seems to be up for me anyhow, Let me know how you're getting on djax!

Also, I think it contains more music than any other Mini, possibly... I can't confirm this - There are 20 Music Tracks in it and hopefully the soundtrack will be available on iTunes soon.
speaking of the game music, I noticed 'Anamanaguchi' was tagged, did they contribute to the soundtrack?Posted 2 years ago # -
Ha ha nope. They played our company launch and were our first external playtesters. They are genuinely some of my best friends in the world now and I hope we get to collab on a future project... On top of that, we listened basically to a steady diet of Anamanaguchi and The Sword for the whole development! They did love the music however... :)

I bought game. Its concept is good, but I have several things to improve:
1) Why is not highscore table avaliable from main menu? I must finish Endless mode to see it...
2) Why Tower mode does not have highscore table?
3) Goal of Tower mode is to build tower to the top of the screen. For this I only need to press X button, and I easily win every level in this mode...no need to press another buttons. Is this fun? I think not... I would like to see timed mode, instead of this Tower mode...
4) When I am moving bricks to left or right on dpad, I must repeately press the button, its frustrating, in other games long press means continuous move to left or right...
5) Up and down buttons on dpad do nothing...

But on the other hand, I like Story mode, is very challenging. And I like, that game remember last entered name in highscore table.

The game ROCKS!!!
Awesome music… just AWESOME!!!Now for the bad news, the game froze twice on two separate occasions:
1. The second time playing I decided to check out the ‘Credits’ again, and afterwards the game froze and the PSP shut down.
2. The second time it froze was just after ‘Forest Level 1’… again the PSP shut down.
Both times it just hung on the loading screen then the PSP shut down.I hope that these were both just freak occurrences… but I thought you should know this anyway… just in case. ;)
P.S. Did I mention the awesome music :D
Posted 2 years ago # -
Thanks ThumbBandit. I'll ask the progs to look into those bugs. So happy you like the music as thats my side of things. I hope the game goes down well enough to warrant doing a vastly expanded version of it....
Thanks again dude for the heads-up and for the kind words!

Is possible to implement some features, that I wrote in my post?
Posted 2 years ago # -
Hm, why is the game not available in Germany and Austria?
Cheers

Maybe djax, But we have to be careful, we cant allow ourselves to lose focus on Ninjamurai you know? And also, all the stuff you mentioned (Bar the control issues) we had originally hoped to implement but couldn't get in due to time restraints. I'm not ruling out updates, by any means, but i just cant commit right now, sorry djax.
In relation to Tower Mode - It is a totally bonus mode, its the kind of thing that was an added bonus, it wasn't the key focus of the game. Also, I like playing it on difficulty 4 - I thought that was good and tough with the bottom line blowing out every so often but I dont know, I mean I would like to expand tower mode but maybe thats something for another game, give it the focus it needs...
As for the leaderboards, if we are to update it we would probably have it like old puzzlers, where the leaderboard would come up if you waited at the title screen for a minute or so... Something like that perhaps... We also have to localise the game for multiple languages and get it out in the states, so we are a bit swamped...
I hope we can get those updates out, but it will be a while anyhow...

@Paddy Murphy
Its not just America you know, its America, Canada and maybe Mexico :pIts still a day 1 purchase for me when it hopefully comes out next week on the NA PSN Store. I'm really looking forward to Ninjamuria btw!

I played this game a lot, but is very buggy :-(, many times freeze and restart PSP at loading screens at random levels (about 10 times in a hour) :-(, maybe it should be removed from PSN store, until patch will be released, for me is unplayable for this reason... I have PSP 3004.
Posted 2 years ago # -
this game freezed twice on me on different occasions, also the story mode could be better
anyway, this game is fun for sure, but it is over-priced and needs more polish and tweak than most of the other minis IMO
Posted 2 years ago # -
Thanks for the feedback guys. Will look into it, Unusually I've only had one freeze up on three devices myself over 8 days.
In terms of polish, thats fair, we were quite rushed, but as a first Mini for someone with no previous experience of console development, we are happy with the title and some of the other feedback it has been getting has been incredibly positive... In saying that, the game is out there to please you guys so we're gonna try and patch it.
All the best,
Paddy M.

@Paddy M.
I am so looking forward to this game in NA. I was sure it was a first day buy for me, but could you go into any details on the bugs? Its just that I remember how bad Zenonia was and I dont wanna have those kind of bugs with Mad Blocker. Thx Paddy.
Posted 2 years ago # -
Hey Chaos,
No problem. In regards to the bugs, I have had one freeze up thus far but the bug seems to differ across devices as Djax was saying that he had many, many freezes. Most people so far have only had the odd freeze and I wonder if it is to do with different hardware - most notably memory cards. Most game devs would have a stock of mem cards to test on of all different brands and sizes whereas we have only the one or two different varieties. Obviously if we make some cash off mad blocker this will allow us to get more equipment for testing. I have had no freeze ups on my go and one on my ps3. Anyway, we will be hoping to patch the game so the NA version is more than likely going to be the patched version. It can sometimes seem like we aren't making an effort to sort things out but it's just we are a tiny company of 4 people. We have no localisation division, no qa division and no pr division. We have to do everything ourselves on a basically non existent budget at present. I hope you will really enjoy the game when it launches in the U.S soon and I aim to have the bugs slain by then since other than that the game has received a pretty warm welcome thus far or our wikipedia page is lying ;)
Cheers dude,
All the best,Paddy m.
