Why would they make this only for Europe?
I'm a little jealous

I think because Europeans actually buy games on UMD. (And unlike Japan, they likely don't use the Wifi for local multiplayer).

Yeah, I agree with JeremyR. I think the general PSP user patterns by region are like this:
Japan: mass amounts of multiplayer (and single-player) gaming
Europe: mostly single-player gaming with somewhat significant UMD sales (or so I take it, based on Minis on UMDs having been sold in Europe)
North America: just about dead :(
SCEA probably feels there is no way the NA PSP market can recover, while SCEE is more optimistic. I hope this is not an indicator that big Japanese PSP games will no longer get any localization for us.

OMG!!!! I am a belgian
EDIT: Wait a minute!....Does it even have a optical UMD drive???

It looks kinda cool. But only 1 speaker, bigger & heavier than the 3000, and no Wi-fi. I'd still pay the extra for the 3000 I reckon.

You forget the mono sound part... This thing doesn't even have stereo.

pspgamer01: Yes it has a UMD drive.
The only alternative for getting games is using Media Go on a PC or else using a PS3.

Am I jealous that Europe has Ducati Challenge and we don't? Hell yeah I am! Am I jealous of whoever is having relations with Halle Berry? Hell yeah I am! Am I jealous of that new model. Nope!
Sony doesn't really care if the PSP fades away at this point, I just wish they would let it fade with its dignity, but for some reason they won't let it. They have turned the PSP into the Brett Favre of video games.
In my honest opinion, this is just a waste of resources and a way for Sony to have something "new" to sell for the holidays. People claimed the Go was a bad idea and I still to this day call those people slightly retarded, but this thing is a bad idea.

I live in Europe, and I don't want it.
No wifi!... f**k off!!!Posted 9 months ago # -
I think the budget PSP is a good idea but given the current point the PSP lifecycle it needs to be sold at least half that amount.
If the on-the-shelf price here in the UK was no more than £49.99, then it would make much more sense.

I probably should have clarified why I would be jealous. This would be a perfect deployment system for me. I don't really wanna take my Big Boss PSP to Iraq or Afghanistan so this would be nice for me. Its cheap enough that if it got blown up I wouldn't feel so bad. Unless I was holding it at the time.

Dude, you have interesting buying considerations! ;-)

I'll buy it probably. Maybe they fixed the psp 3000 so called scanlines. Or maybe the battery will last longer on this model than the 3000's. Maybe this one's UMD Drive will last longer. And this ones is finger print free. But then again no wifi, which can be a big pain at times.

Consider the Vita a reboot, I think it is there to stimulate sales in all regions, I can't say I understand the complexity of the regional markets, but there's hope for increased sales all around yet, with the Vita. I just hope it will be really, really good.

Import one Random. PSPs are region free, so you can still play all of your games on it.

I suspect this is not entirely true. It does appear to have only one speaker, but it most likely still supports stereo sound through the headphone jack, much like the Game Boy micro. Maybe the original Game Boy, too, though I'm not sure. In addition, I do recall reading that this was also the case in the first Sega Genesis (Mega Drive) models--kind of weird to need to wear headphones while playing games on a TV, eh?
It is strange, though, that the device is larger and heavier than the PSP-3000, and the price is not low enough to really make it a budget system.

Yes, the old 'grey brick' gameboy did have stereo sound through the earphone-jack.

Indeed, I have a US PSP and live in the UK. The only thing that doesn't work is UMD movies. I access the UK PSN Store (so you'd be able to use the local store wherever you live, via Media Go on PC or via a PS3) and I play UK and US UMDs. If you can find a site with cheap shipping, it could be the way to go.

In somewhat similar news, I'm reading today that, at least in the UK, Nintendo will be releasing a new model of the Wii (meant to replace the current model) that does not play GameCube games or support GameCube accessories. I hope this does not happen in the US. Sony may still sell PS2s and UMD-compatible PSPs, but there are no GameCube-compatible machines in production other than Wiis!
I would recommend against Chaos importing an E-1000, for the simple reason that 99 Euros is actually more money than the current $130 cost of a PSP-3000.

Whoa, I guess I should have done the math conversion. I would be better off to just buy another 3000. Used at that. And most of my games are on my memory stick anyway. This thing might be a waste of time afterall.

@ Sifjar
Some UK UMD movies will work on a US PSP... even though they shouldn't. I know this to be true.
;)Posted 9 months ago # -
Interesting. I thought they were all region locked. Ah well, its no big deal to me anyway, I always get any movie I want on DVD and rip it for my PSP if I want to watch it on the go. Carrying more UMDs than necessary is a hassle I don't really like :P

It would be a bit 'hit & miss' as to which ones would work anyway, so the method you're using now is best.

They have turned the PSP into the Brett Favre of video games.
That was awesome Ofaliss haha.
Anyways on topic, I'm such a gadget whore that I was even considering getting this travesty. I'm itching to get a new gadget.

I think it looks really pretty, still not getting one, but I love the look of it:

Posted 9 months ago # -
I really does look a lot better than I though it would. Except for the bottom, it looks kinda not good.
Is that a new shoulder button in the second pic?

'Sample for not sale'... sorry!... what!!!... does that make sense to anyone, or has my dyslexic brain gone into meltdown.
P.S. The mat finnish looks very cool, but at the same time cheap and tacky... the sunken screen is uber cool (wish mine had one)... and no wifi still sucks dog bollocks.

I'm glad you said something TB, I wanted to but was afraid that maybe I had indeed come down with the lexia! :D
Posted 9 months ago # -
The finish certainly looks a lot more finger print resistant than previous models.
Posted 9 months ago # -
I are confuzeled. where's the switch for and where to put my video component cable.
Update: Check this out.
