PSP Minis

   Saw this over at Pocket Gamer. Yoyo games apparently has a PC game creation program called Gamemaker, and are apparently porting the engine that runs the games to the PSP.

   They have a video of it here

   Sounds like they intend for it to be an official product. Either standalone, or perhaps games could be released separately as Minis. Interesting at any rate

   PSP games will have to be submitted to YoYo games to get onto PSP, though we will release a product allowing you to see how games will run on the PC (and have the same restrictions as the PSP version).

   Well, true, the quality isn't the best. But I looked at some of the games on the site, there's some decent stuff.

   Wow. This would be awesome if it became an option for Game Maker to be used to create minis. No doubt there are plenty of poor quality games made with Game Maker. That's inevitable for an engine aimed at hobby/indie game makers. But there is also no doubt that you can make quality games with it. I've played a few quality ones myself. If this engine gets ported to PSP and is an option for making a mini that would be awesome. I'd probably stop my flash game development and start learning game maker.

   Actually, I would rather see some scripting languages (Python, Lua, etc) to be *officially* ported to the PSP to be used in the creation of Minis. They are very easy to learn and pretty versatile.

   Also, is gamemaker even that great? I've never used, nor played anything created with it.

   I really don't think they'll be used for psp minis, if this does happen. I think it would be more likely that there would be a "game maker games" section added to the store, and it would probably be treated more like the xblig section on the 360, too (ie gets no attention, whatsoever).

   I'd probably stop my flash game development and start learning game maker.

   it's not really something you have to learn imo, that's that appeal of it. its so straight forward and simple, that you can make the games you want, at just about the second you start.

   Sounds like it's just another engine like PhyreEngine, and Vicious Engine (which has been used on a few Minis).

   Well, pretty much anyone can make games with it. It's not so much a programming language. More importantly, anyone can presumably make a game with it, submit it to the YoYo games, and perhaps have it published somehow on the PSP.

   Whereas with Phyre/Vicious you pretty much need your own PSP dev kit (and know programming).
