I hate the sh*t out of it for a few reasons, but the most important reason is because it's just a terrible game.
But I'll get more into why I say it's a terrible game, after I guage the level of love/hate for it.

I don't mind it, it's a bit of fun. Wildly over rated though/
I'm really just baffled by it.
As you get older, there's a point where you don't get popular culture.
Justin Bieber, I understand. Teen idols go back to the 30s, and his hair is indeed awesome (had the same hairstyle when I was a kid, 25 years ago, just like the Six Million Dollar man and Gary Collins)
Lady Gaga I get. Basically she's copying David Bowie/Madonna. Only those two were at least attractive. But still, it's the same shtick.
American Idol and whatnot - basically The Gong Show and Dance Fever (which I wish would come out on DVD)
But Angry Birds, I just well, don't get it.
Jeremy, that has nothing to do with age my friend. I'm 23 and I don't get it either.
"Gaga is handsome no matter what he/she really is." - Dolph Ziggler
Angry Birds must be to us what Pac-Man was to paper RPG players.
Nah, I played D&D since the little brown book days and I was one of those standing in line in the morning to buy Pac-Man on the 2600.
Angry Birds is more like Grand Funk Railroad.
Somehow they managed to sell out giant stadiums and had tons of groupies (which one of their songs is about). But they really weren't very good. Just pretty meh as far as classic rock groups go...
I've been meaning to ask one of you older guys, how did you get your gaming news back in the 2600 days? Were there gaming magazines being published then? Did they show commercials months ahead of time so you could save up the cash? Billboards?
Blurry Polaroids of leaked console images in the newspaper!? During radio soap operas!? Word of mouth via the chain gang!? Now I'm just being a jackass! :D
I know my older brother bought 'Crash' magazine back in the 'ZX Spectrum' days... but beyond that, I don't have a clue. ;)
Games (and the systems themselves) would actually come with catalogs of all the planned releases for that year (plus all the old ones).

Like this is the ad for Superman
http://www.atariage.com/catalog_page.html?CatalogID=26¤tPage=36
Sometimes they'd never come out. I waited for years for Tunnels & Trolls for the Colecovision
Neither did Lord of the Rings
http://www.atariage.com/catalog_page.html?CatalogID=15¤tPage=11
Atari also had their own magazine that they would send out if you belonged to their club

I had all of those. Wish I still did, probably worth something.
if we get some of those iphone or ipad only levels for cheap (and lag free), i'll be a little happier towards AB. for now it's disappointed and furious.
My view of it is this, it is the first hit touch pad style game. In part because it was free, and it's a relatively new format. I've played it on a phone and it's a good time waster, and also even people who aren't even into video games can enjoy it. It's also sort of funny.
I'm not interested in it because I feel the slingshot is a bit too random and hard to control. I haven't bought it and probably won't unless a 3rd update starts getting glowing reviews from this site.
There were also gaming magazines back in the old days, though none of them were really, really big publications back then (Nintendo Power is the first really big gaming magazine I can remember, but that, of course, came after the crash; I don't think any of the magazines predating the crash were as well known). Also, arcade centers themselves advertised upcoming arcade games, I believe.
I think it's also worth noting that the volume of games being released back then was not like the huge numbers these days. The number of releases in any given week (not counting things like shareware and magazine exclusives) didn't match the torrent of new titles each week nowadays.
Mind you, I was not actively gaming in the 2600's heyday, so if JeremyR refutes anything I said above, listen to him, not me.
a bit too random
That best sums up why I personally think it's a terrible game.
I can understand why people with little to no gaming experience would find Angry Birds entertaining for about a 1 minute, but for people to love it the way they do... it just baffles the mind. I can't understand how a game that is just a never ending loop of trial and error, doesn't frustrate people to the point that they rip their hair out.
Someone once told me that I hate Angry Birds because I suck at it, and I replied...
I don't hate it because I suck at it, I hate it because I have no other choice but to suck at it.
@Ofaliss
i agree with the randomness of the game, sometimes you need more luck to win. the problem for me is the lag and game crashes on the PSP version. this is one of very few games that i know i want right away regardless of price and it greatly disappointed me, so i'm a bit on edge. don't hate it myself, just mad.
It's interesting to me to think about game mechanics, because Doodle Fit which I am playing a lot of, involves mainly trial and error. I suppose some people could 'see' in their mind where every piece is supposed to go, but for the most part, it's trial and error, and still fun. It's a game that you only get slightly better at over time, and it would be hard to become a master at it, where as say, Mario, you get more skilled over time until you're very skilled. It's weird to me to play a game and not be any better at it at the end of it than at the beginning, but that's just how some games are.
I was going to say something about angry birds, I think I'm threadjacking, sorry. I was trying to say something along the lines of, angry birds has trial and error with added randomness and luck, and less puzzle solving than most puzzle games. The difficulty is in the aiming, with maybe a little logic on how to hit the puzzle. I'd consider it a 'casual' game, because of this, I don't think it strains the brain much.
I hate it so much. I'd be okay if it was original or kind of innovative, but instead its a ripoff of that popular flash game (crush the castle I think is the name) with cute characters. Its not even that fun either, plus they're one of the richest developers from this boring game. They made like 50 games that flopped before they made this too so it shows they don't have talent. It sucks that because I'm a gamer people assume I love Angry birds and know every little secret but when I say I don't like it they suddenly think I must not be a gamer or something. I play real games like Zelda, Gears of War and Uncharted not your five minute time wasters. I really hate casuals, its sad they made this and kinect a success.
(sorry for the long rant I just hate angry birds success)
Wow, I'm so late on this thread. I dont like it either. I did play it though, for about an hour and I had enough. I dont understand the hype either. I would never pay money for it. I cant believe its still popular.
@JeremyR
Totally agree with you on your first comment
minus the Lady GaGa being not attractive. I think shes attractive when she dresses like a woman not a dude. lol
And i HATE all the new music and sh*t
its TERRIBLE all the rap is so repetivtive. Its always about partying, getting dumped, or being high.
ANd so are the clothes too colorful. Its like a rainbow took a dump on someones shirt.
also i didnt play angry birds on the psp i played on ipod touch and i kinda dropped after like a day.
Never listen to rap that plays on the radio Hellboy. Hunt down some DOOM and give him a listen. I used to be a big fan of Kanye West, but he stop talking about anything substantial after Graduation. Now he's all status quo.
Jesus, why is it the only time we can stay on topic, in when were in the off topic thread!?
Anyway, about Angry Birds, if you happen to own the original version, apparently if you contact customer service, they will send you a code for the new, Rovio version

And I don't think Lady Gaga is ugly, it's just she's pretty average looking. Like a 6/10?
