'Alien Zombie Death' software glitch?

Hi guys,

I was just playing 'Alien Zombie Death' and something unexpected happened. I was playing the 'Fondi' level (I've completed 10 planets so far) and when I died the game it went to auto save as usual but then the screen went dark and I realised that my PSP3003 had turned itself off? The order I did it that caused it to crash was this:- I loaded game, started playing Ruboi level, then went up to Earl level, then back down to Fondi.

Any ideas?

This happened to you?

Also is it me or when I play the game and press and hold to autofire, that sometimes when I move up or down the auto fire stops (which can get annoying if theres an alien waiting for you!)

I hope there will be an update on this as this is an awesome game thats just put me off if its going to keep doing this.....

Ignore most of these answer attempts. It's simply bad programming on the developer's part. I have to put up with the same issue with the Grand Theft Auto games, especially when I'm playing around with the tank. It's simply the PSP getting overloaded, possibly memory overflow or the game was unable to process the sudden and massive influx of data and simply hung. The fact that the PSP turns itself off is because it is able to determine that the game is no longer responding and powers itself down because you would be unable to turn the device off otherwise (aside from removing the battery). This is not the fault of the PSP, just a game bug."

The autofire issue with the game appears to be my square button. If you briefly press it, it works fine, but if you continuously hold on it sometimes it doesnt work. Im pretty sure that this is down to the "square button issue" although Sony said that this was resolved on the psp3000, which mine is the 3003. I found if I press slightly harder it works fine. Maybe its the buttons also wearing in as i've only had it a few months. Or maybe its as i have a spongey thumb lol! Its just a bit annoying as when you barley have to press the triangle, x and circle down and they work fine.

Come to think of it, I had the same issue with my 1st psp 3000, before it went faulty. Exactly the same thing happend with the L button. It was like the right button was more responsive than the L and I had to press the L a bit harder for it to work.

Anyone else have this?

Also i've been playing "Alien Zombie Death" all night and it hasnt crashed again... so yes indeed it appears to be a one off glitch. Doh!

I push the buttons so hard, it leaves circlur indentations in my thumb.
I didn't know the 3000 had a square button issue... I knew the early 1000 models had an issue (only one half of the button would go down, and the other half would hit the internal screen casing). ;)

Haha. Just shows how sturdy the psp is then Thumbbandit - would you say that some buttons are more responsive than others tho? Is yours a 3000?

No, my current one is a 2000, and before that 2 1000s (not both at once, the first one bought the farm, and the second 1000 just wore out after 2 good years of use and abuse) and out of the three the 2000 (very similar in design and construction to the 3000) is the most robust (I think it's because the UMD drive is more basic, and the components are more tightly packed in).
As far as button responsiveness goes, I think it depends how much you use each button, on mine for example, the cross button is a little easer to push down because it is the most used… in fact the 1000 that wore out, the cross button broke internally (the rubber sensor tore), so would I say that the PSP 2000 is well made, short answer… YES! ;)

We've got a couple of 2000s that are used by the kids and they have proven very robust. They don't have rubber cases or screen protectors or anything like that and yet they still seem to survive the general wear n' tear of family life.

Good to know then guys. Think it may be the fact that as its new i've haven't "broken it in" yet. Think the X button may get pretty worn as I play alot of racing games. I think it may actually be an user error with my square button. I've started to play "Alien Zombie Death" using the inside knuckle of my thumb so that the tip of my thumb doesnt actually press the square button, and low and behold the left autofire works continuously! Hooray. I'm not saying that the square button never worked at all but after pressing it would stop firing. Guess it may have been the fact that I may have an abnormal "squishy" thumb!

I hope that this PSP3003 will last as I think its the best console to date and the minis rock!

do you say that the psp 2000 UMD Drive is better made the the 3000 one?

I think it's the same, but both the 2000 and 3000 are much better than the 1000 model. ;)

Sorry to hear that dude, mine is still going strong 3 years (and a few minor drops and one major drop... the UMD drive door fell off, but I fixed it) on.
I still think the PSP 2000 and 3000 are very well made. ;)

Sorry for the late post... I've been buisy the past few days.

thumbbandit- got a question... Your latest PSP, you said "I push the buttons so hard, it leaves circular indentations in my thumb." After the issue with the autofire not working on "Alien Zombie Death" I've been experimenting with how to "press" my buttons on the PSP. It may be a weird thing to ask, but with ALL my consoles, I've always taken care of them, so I've never used a heavy hand when pressing buttons.

Now today, I played a few games and pressed the buttons down "all the way to the floor" and they work spot on. Do you do this and if I press quit hard, would it break the buttons like with your previous PSP1000 where the rubber broke. I'm not bashing or whacking the buttons, just merley pressing the buttons "all" the way down.

Thanks for any advice given!

If you push the buttons down hard, it's ok, I do, and have done so all my gaming life... the 1000 that the button broke on, I blame WTF (Work Time Fun) and all the button bashing that game requires... that's also why I havn't bought Bishi Bashi for my PSP.
So, in conclusion, pushing down hard, good... repeatidly pushing for hours on end, bad. ;)

Cheers man. I remember I had Need for Speed Pro Street on my DS Lite (dodgey game) and they had this section where you had to press the buttons repeatedly and together in sequence to the music and it eventually broke the x button - kinda why I was asking.

I feel kind of a tit now, but used to get frustrated when, in car games, the car would slow down. This was clearly down to me not pressing hard enough! lol! Guess I've just rediscovered my racing games!

Hey thumbbandit. Just out of curiosity as my PSP3003VB is still in 1yr warranty till OCT, I took it back to our local Game store. Mentioned to the guy that the buttons were a bit iffy, and I had it crash every now and again. He gladly swopped it for a new one (so nearly 1yr on I got a Brand new PSP lol!). I gotta say that this new one is a MILLION times better. For one, the x,o,triangle,square are way more responsive and the slightly wonky USB port I spoke about before is perfect. Yes, I am very picky when it comes to stuff but i'm soo glad I swopped my PSP.

WOOHOO! Its like a new toy all over again.
