   yeah, I though the announcement was just that portal 2 will be on the ps3 and will support steam, not that steam is going to be on the ps3. the "big" part of it was due to valve previously badmouthing the ps3, and not giving the ps3 ports of their games any attention (the orange box on the ps3, for example, was terrible), making an announcement like this huge, since the ps3 version will be the only one with support for steam.

   still, that was a great part of the Sony press conference, Gabe Newell of Valve got some nice lines in there in reference to his previous ps3 bashing: "I'd like to thank Sony for their gracious hospitality, and not repeatedly punching me in the face" "if I seem nervous, its only because Kevin Butler was introduced to me backstage as "VP of sharpening things""

   For original games, it's a bit difficult when a lot of developers for what ever reason port their titles to the Apple platform. Halfbrick is likely done with Minis for good. M(P)SMP and The Flying Hamster are also supposed to recieve Apple ports.

   Well, most of Halfbrick's stuff wasn't original. Just Age of Zombies. The rest were ports from Xbox Indie games.

   But I get what you mean.

   Still, I think it's just smart. Hedging their bets. I just wish the PSP got more of the good stuff from the iPhone.

   Not to knock G5's stuff, or whatever Sanuk Games brings over (okay, I am knocking Gameloft's stuff)

   Make it mandatory for publishers to submit a demo for each title released (and drop charging publishers for internet bandwidth, SCEE).

   Allow wireless features.

   Announce when a game has been fixed/updated. Why keep it a secret instead of using an excellent opportunity to (re)create a buzz about said game!?

   Advertise more in advance about upcoming titles. Create more buzz in general, interesting competitions, interviews, videos etc.

   Lower the prices.

   Sony could just use the time limit feature in the PSP firmware if they wanted to. Publishers wouldn't need to submit demos.

   I suspect it would hurt sales more than it helped though. I admittedly bought Sneezies since I got to play it for the review here. But I wouldn't have bought Vempire or MPSMP if I had played them first, and that is also the reason I didn't buy Age of Zombies (liked the idea, didn't think much of the actual game).

   And the thing with digital distribution is that no one seems to know who should handle the PR. SCEA doesn't, SCEE sometimes does a weekly roundup of what Minis are being released. But the companies themselves need to do a little better. Many don't even bother to put out press releases or screenshots. (I've had a heck of a time getting screenshots for a lot of my reviews here).

   I am afraid that you are wrong in all of your points, Rein.

   First, it is up to developers/ publishers to promote their games. Making people aware of the game and making them interested in buying it is a must.
   SCEE is doing an excellent job in marketing minis. The games appear on the PS Store among other releases and a lot of banner space is given to minis. If only SCEA did the same...

   Publishers are responsible for the pricing. If the price is too high and nobody buys the game - its the publisher's fault.

   Wireless is not possible because of the PS3 emulation and PS3 sales are extremely important.

   And finally, demos. It does not make a sense to create a 10 minutes demo for a game that most people are supposed to play for 10 minutes bursts of gameplay. They would simply download another game.

   I believe that minis are not ill. They will not make their publishers rich and famous, but can make their publishers profitable companies, if they are smart enough.

   Hi Jakub. Thank you for clarifying some of the misconceptions I and perhaps others too have about Sony and what's going on behind the scene. Most of your answers make sense and hey... who am I to argue with the guy behind '5-in-1 Arcade Hits' - one of my absolute favourite Minis (gotta love Tetroid and Solitaire). :)

   Still though, I believe Sony could be more assertive when it comes to game prices. Nintendo pretty much dictates DLC prices (points) for the wii and DSi store I believe. So why can't/won't Sony?

   Perhaps you're right about a Minis demo being a bad idea. Sony could still utilize the time limit feature as JeremyR explained though.

    I would love to see ports from older mobile games, not just ones from iPhone. God of War: Betrayal, Ratchet & Clank: Going Mobile, maybe English ports of Dirge of Cerberus Lost Episode: Final Fantasy VII and Before Crisis: Final Fantasy VII?

    These games would be PERFECT for minis, as they're relatively short and wouldn't make sense as regular PSN releases. These games have already been developed, but not a lot of people have an older phone that they can actually play these games on anymore. It would create more hype and buzz for the games, plus with these big, well-known names, it'll attract more people to the minis program.
