They should have a 20 minute demo for all minis, and even downloadable games.
I hate dropping $4 bucks for a mini, then I end up hating it, if I had a demo I could have saved the $4 and spent it on a game I liked.

yeah, I also think they should that, like with xbox live indie games.
I dont think the developers can do that. Either way, I always know if I'm gonna like the Mini I buy. And if you're ever not sure, just ask around here or read reviews. I like your idea, but I dont think it would work for Minis.
The dev's probably couldn't do that (at least not easily), but I do think Sony could implement a timed trial system to their infrastructure (as iebo points out, like XBLIG) as you describe.
In fact the ps3 has one for plus users (download a full disc game, play it for 60 minutes, if you like it buy it and the trial becomes full game), and I think it would actually work far better with minis since they aren't 2-10 GB, so downloading them just to try them out wouldn't be such a burden.
I recommend that whoever feels they are in the mood, create a petition for both developers and gamers who feel this would be a useful feature, or use the ideas section of the PSblog as well, it's a reasonable idea so I cant imagine it being unpopular.
I suppose. I won't mention the game, but I read the full review, screenshots, and videos etc. But I ended up being averted to the control scheme and gameplay, though I did like how it looked and the concept.
I guess now and then you just drop a few bucks on a game, and that's it. I bought a new one today that I like though, so I suppose I can think of it as spending a little more to find just the right game.
I can tell you though, even a 5 minute demo would've been sufficient for me to know that it wasn't my thing.
Demos would be a great idea. But until then, the best thing to do is wait on the review. If the review seems suspect*, wait to hear what the community has to say about it.
Like Random said, I can tell before hand which mini I'm going to like. I'm guessing that holds true for everyone, so stick to those. Once you get feedback on the ones your not sure of, then go for it. I will say the people here are pretty reliable in their recommendations.
* When I say suspect, I mean when a game gets a higher score than you personally believe it should have gotten or lower. Again, that's your own personal call. It's not my intent to offend any of the reviewers on this site.
Well, this ability is apparently built into the firmware. If you select a game from the XMB, and pick Info, there is a "Time Left" tab. But it's not enabled.
the time left counter is used for ps+ content. I downloaded a movie preview (the only free content I've ever seen on the video side) and it also used this function.
On the idea of knowing how its going to be beforehand, I kind of agree as I check up on any game loads before I buy it, so I rarely buy one I don't like. However there are exceptions. Monsters (probably) stole my princess was a highly reviewed game here with great comments in the forum, the video's even looked good, yet it was a wasted buy for me in the end, what looked fun wasn't to me, and I never realised short meant barely anything to it!!
So demo's would be awesome! I reckon more likely to lead to more buys than less when you try out a game you didnt think about buying then loved it. I tink I must run must be the only mini with a demo but that wasn't something the rest could do easily, so would be good from Sony!
This is a great idea. The Android Market does this as well. If you uninstall an app/game within 15 mins of purchasing it then you automatically get a full refund.
I love the setup XBLA and Indies have. Try it, if you like it buy it, if not delete it. I only need 15 minutes to decide if I hate a game or not. So something like that becoming the standard on all downloadable games would be awesome.
With all things soon to be connected to the internet at all times, no matter where you are, I'm sure that it will become the standard in the not too distant future.
Interesting ideas.
I see what a couple of you are saying, about how with research you will always know whether you will like the game or not, but that's simply not the case for me. All I'm saying is, every now and then I like the concept, the graphics, but then something about the control scheme or gameplay will throw me off, which is why I think a demo would come in handy. It's rare for me but every now and then I get a stinker, and I wish I could return it like you can return nearly every thing else, that's all.
I also don't see, how would a demo hurt the developers?
I doubt Sony would bother to implement something like this this late in the PSP's life, but it would be a great addition if they did. I always like free stuff, I'd probably download trials of every mini that gets released, regardless of whether I think I'd want it or not.
Man, you guys are making me want demos. Good example of a game that I didnt agree with the review is Zenonia. I love that freakin game, but PSPMinis didnt give it a great review. SifJar is right though, its too late.
I think I resolved the problem why I picked the 'wrong' game. Despite pretty good reviews, the game was in a genre that I generally don't like. I'll keep the genre in mind more now when picking games.
I still think demos would be nice though.
I have to say, I'm curious what game you've been talking about. Come on, you can tell us.
...yeh! ...Inquiring minds need to know!!!
;)
sounds nice, although I get the minis based on the reviews here and have yet to be dissapointed. heck, some minis got lower reivews and I still want it (e.g. Scarygirl)
There are developers on here. I didn't want to hurt any feelings.
But allright, I'm not trying to be secretive or something.
It's the highly acclaimed Coconut Dodge! I liked the graphics, but was on the edge on the concepts. I like puzzle games. This is more of a reaction type game, split second reactions than puzzle.
I also don't like games where you have to hold down the button the entire time, where you hold down one button in the game to increase speed, then double tap for more speed. Just fix the speed already! I mean keep it at one speed the entire time. I never know which speed to use, it's like in brick breaker games, one speed is enough.
So I'm not a reviewer and find it hard to articulate. But I dodged some coconuts for 15 minutes and then deleted it. $4 gone for me but hey, you hit and miss right. It's a polished game, it does one thing and I don't like that one thing lol.
