I won the contest too, and I love it, but like you guys were saying, I hate how you can't unselect all the planets at once, caused me to lose, quite a few times.

R selects/deselects a single planet. It is useful if you have one planet that you've accidently sent too many units too. I like to load up one of my own planets near enemy territory to quickly take over a larger target without having to wait for my ships to cross the screen.
I'm a little surprised that when you send more ships to a new destination your original selection also changes targets. The AI doesn't seem to suffer this same limitation.

All the various "stages" you play in campaign, are just gameplay modes in Fusion Mode.

I think I read that R did something, but whenever I hit R it did nothing. Also, I found myself losing alot during campaign even though I had all but one planet left to conquer. I'm not sure why that was.

I only played the first few levels. Then I got to a level where I can't see the number of enemy units, but didn't realize this and turned it off... Would a question mark not make more sense than an X? I assumed I couldn't take back the planets and gave up.

My only real complaint, L selects all worlds, but does no unselect them. If I accidently hit L while trying to devote one particular set of units I need to then try and unselect each individually, losing lots of time. This issue is made worse by the fact that all planets are selected on occassion even though I didn't hit L. It might be my psp, it's getting pretty beaten, but I think it more likely is a glitch.

What is Fusion Mode Ofaliss?

Is definitely interesting so far and will do a mini review after I get to play all the different game modes.

I gave it a 3, based solely on gameplay. I downloaded it day one, because I heard Nobuo Uematsu had done the soundtrack (purchased the soundtrack the second it became available for sell). I love his compositions for the Final Fantasy soundtracks he's worked on.

The game can be a blast in short bursts, but can be pretty boring if you spend too much time with it. The difficulty shift in the games takes away from the fluidity of the game. It goes from extremely easy because the colored spheres fall super slow, to really hard because they start coming down very fast.

To add to what you said, the soundtrack is fairly short, so even with such a great soundtrack, your not getting a lot of diversity.

Now with that being said, the spike in difficulty will likely appeal to a lot of gamers, and since I haven't much experience with puzzle games, the 3 will likely translate to a 4 for those who are a fan of the genre. Add in the fact that even though the soundtrack is short, it's masterfully composed, it's something that fans of the genre should definitely take a look at. For everyone else though, think twice about it.

Thanks for starting the thread confuletlyf. I never beat the Challenge Mode either! Block Cascade Fusion seems like a cool game, but if it's not better than Kurulin Fusion, there's no need for me to get it.

Ofaliss asked in the comments if Block Cascade Fusion is better than Kurulin Fusion.
I haven't played Block Cascade yet, but I do own Kurulin Fusion. Judging by the video I think Cascade may be the better title, though maybe not challenging enough to be as much fun as Kurulin Fusion.
The fusion mechanics in the two games are extremely different. Judging from the video the gameplay in Cascade looks far easier. Since you only need to match colours, you can concentrate simply on grouping blocks together. The fusions also clear automatically.
Kurulin does seem to have more depth to it's gameplay. I don't know if there is some kind of bonus in Cascade for clearing larger groups. There could possibly be strategy involved in keeping colours seperate to join larger groups later.
The video shows in game trophies. As simple as this may be I find it adds a lot of replay to simpler games. It boils down to a section to quickly see just how much you've accomplished. I find it far better than chasing highscores.
The most noticable difference would be the size of the board. This is the where I think Block Cascade Fusion may be much better than Kurulin Fusion. The small board in Kurulin Fusion makes for quick plays, even in the main game I didn't find myself lasting longer than 5 minutes. Since you can pause and send your psp to sleep I found this to be a bit of a letdown. The larger playfield in Block Cascade Fusion makes it look like you could get some impressive runs.

Since I already own Kurulin Fusion I'm not likely to pick up Block Cascade until after I see the review. It looks like it does some things better, but not sure it presents a difficult enough challenge to be worthwhile. (So Ofaliss, probably not much help, I'm decidingly sitting on the fence.)

Not a mini, but Kurulin Fusion came up in discussion in the news comments.

I picked up Kurulin Fusion on sale last year and for only $2 thought it was great value. It's a very interesting puzzle game that I did enjoy for several months. The core gameplay was solid, and the challenges were varied and enjoyable, but the difficulty made the game feel like pure luck at times.
The soundtrack in Kurulin is good, but not especially lengthy so does get grating after some time.
The graphics are very well done. The blocks all look vibrant, and the animations are surprisngly flashy.
The gameplay can be extemely difficult. In Kurulin you have to fuse blocks and place detonators, matching their corresponding colours. The two sometimes come down together, making it difficult to keep your blocks from clearing. The board itself is fairly small, which makes it very difficult to keep colours seperate. When trying to fuse larger blocks, you usually have to choose just one colour and hope you get enough blocks, as you'll need to clear the other colours to avoid having the board fill.
That being said, the challenges in Kurulin Fusion were extremely enjoyable. Some of the most challenging and rewarding involved needing to clear multiple fused blocks of a certain size. Making larger blocks is extremely difficult. Not only do you need to keep the detonators seperate from your blocks, the blocks themselvs only fuse in regular patterns (1x2,2x2,1x3,2x3,3x3).
The main game is a basic match 3 or tetris style gameplay. The blocks fall eternally, so long as you can keep clearing the space. The downfall is there seems to be little reward to creating larger fusions. I found myself avoiding the risk/reward of the larger fusions, though I've never been one to chase highscores. The only time I actively tried to build a bigger fusion was when the gameplay was beginning to speed up, as you could jump past several levels with a large chain.
The real downfall in the game is the difficulty. Not only does the number of colours increase, but the speed does as well. The speeds seemed to be on a tiered system, increasing by level and then reseting again (I think every 10 levels). This is ok in the main game, since you can plan ahead and leave yourself some easy points to race through the faster speeds. The challenges are tiered in this same fashion, but an entire row of challenges is at each speed. I eventually got stuck and gave up because of this. I'm a big fan of puzzle games and usually continue playing, even if I no longer enjoy the game. The ridiculous speed made these challenges feel like sheer luck.

Overall I would have to give the game a 8. Recommended, but at $4 you may want to look into other puzzle games.

I got a free copy in the giveaway last month so thought I'd share my thoughts on this game.

Enigmo is a unique puzzler. You need to deflect drops of water in order to activate switches and reach a container placed in the level. The controls seem well laid out, though some of the finepoints are only revealed upon trial and error. Attempting to line up longer shots was very difficult until I discovered that you could decrease the sensitivity when rotating a piece using square/triangle.

The graphics are nice, and even though the levels are bare you do not notice as you have to think very carefully how to place your pieces.

You are given a limited supply of bumpers and other specialized materials to deflect the drops, and rarely do you have any extra parts. These different items should have been introduced each time you are first allowed to use them. The only way to discover an objects use was trial and error, which although not frustrating was a little disappointing. Again, short tutorials or descriptions would have been appreciated.
The game itself plays well with only a few minor hiccups. Occassionally the game shifts pieces that are off screen. This sometimes requires you to manually adjust pieces that you have already placed, but is rarely so severe as to warrant a restart. Sometimes the angles the drops bounce at seem inconsistent, and the drops appear to only be able to travel a certain time/distance.
There is a score system which depletes over time. If your score reaches zero there is no penalty and you can continue to adjust your pieces. While being able to solve all puzzles is nice, a little bit of pressure from this time limit would have made the game much more interesting.

The menus are a little too simple, and lacking some options. I free look mode would have been nice since some puzzles were extremely challenging and I found myself wanting to see the solution in action. Return to level select is missing, meaning you must wait for the next level to load (and show you all emitters, triggers, and goals) before you can return to main menu/level select. A replay level would also have been nice in order to attempt a high score. High scores are visible from the level select only.

In all the game is a very enjoyable and unique puzzle entry. Anyone liking games requiring though should consider this a must buy.
7/10 - BUT must play for puzzle/logic fans

Good review confuletlyf.

Mine is under an 8 out of 10, but close enough to it. There is still some lag problems, it's not always smooth, but I had absolutely no problem dropping 25 plus hours into it. It's a great diversion and depending on my mood it became more than a diversion. I've already finished it, but I'll probably start up another character anyway. Well worth it and one of the best minis out there.

This game has gotten a lot of attention here, both good and bad. Since I finally broke down and bought it I thought I'd throw out my thoughts on it. Never done a review format but am hoping to start a trend in this part of the forums. Please limit responses to additional reviews/quick reviews.

-Gameplay is solid. Occasionally the game misses a special attack input and continues attacking but nothing gamebreaking. My largest complaint was the handling of item/skill usage. Rather than having the tried and trusted L+button for attacks and R+button for items, the game opted for an awkward L+button to use, and R to change between items or skills. The skills are well balanced and well animated in the 8-bit feel.

-Graphics look very good. Not visually stunning but gives a perfect retro zelda feel.

-Sounds are ok, but the attack noise can get annoying if you're playing in a quiet room.

-Story. I haven't beaten this yet but the story is strong enough to hold the game together. The flavour text from NPCs are humorous, even poking fun at standard game mechanics and ignoring the 4th wall.

-Longevity. I'm playing as an evil warrior and will definitely replay at least once to see the good story, as well as try rogue.

9/10 - though given the price I'm dropping it to an 8. Deffinitely worth playing, am going to get quite a bit of playtime from this, but at nearly the price of a PS1 classic RPG this seems almost overpriced. The small filesize won out.

again, please keep replies to other reviews. This section of the forums could become very useful to us regulars if we decide to to use it.

I got them all, too. I don't remember which was the last one I got, but I don't think it was Hel's (judging from what I wrote in this thread, I think I got hers before Level 90's). The level I used for level-grinding, the hardest one that included the boat trip, had birds in it, though I may have switched to a different one just for finishing the birds.

Yup, I did.
I played the level with the most birds in (I can't remember off hand which level it was) over and over 'til I got it.
As for the hel one... it's best to get that one last anyway... I think I was level 90 at the time. Use the lightning attack on her for a very quick kill before she has a chance to even move. ;)

I gave it a 7, but if the patch can correctly fix the sleep mode issue, it'll be 8 material.

What did you find frustrating about the boss fights, MaxiM? The only one I found frustrating was the first one. It took me a while to realize why I was spontaneously exploding (i.e., I couldn't tell at first that there was a black hole effect going on), and then the strength of the gravity well made it so that maneuvering was likely to get you sucked in; the only safe thing to do was hide in the corner, which then meant having to get pounded by the satellite enemies because your initial equipment gun was a pea shooter and couldn't take them out quickly.

After that, boss fights were only as frustrating to me as the rest of the game because of the inertial controls. In terms of design, I didn't think these boss fights were as difficult as the "average" scrolling shooter's.

I'm the 7 in the poll, incidentally, for reasons discussed at length in the main ASSf2B! thread.

I rate it 6 for 3 reasons:

1. Terrible controls for a SHMUP.
2. Sometimes frustrating boss fights.
3. Really bad attempt at humor.

Now if the controls wouldn't be so floaty I would rate it solid 8.

Hi Balrog,
I gave it a 9… but once it’s patched (and problem with survival is fixed) that 9 becomes a perfect 10. ;)

This is a poll for what you rate A Space Shooter for 2 Bucks! And here is my review/reasons for liking game. I really loved this game for its price point (obviously;) and its re-playability. It has a nice style of graphics with fully voiced(and humorous) dialogue. Now as most of you know there is a "progression bug"* causing many people to lose their... well, progression. I (thankfully) have only had this happen twice in minor issues so it doesn't affect my rating of a 10!
*This bug** commonly occurs when you go into "sleep mode" so don't touch that power switch! :)
**See MickD for more details.

i've given up trying to shoot the right colours and just try and shoot in the right direction.

That ended up being my general strategy as well! ;-)
