ice-road-truckers-5

Thanks very much to NoVy from the PSP Team website for giving us the heads-up about this mini. Slitherine Software UK’s Ice Road Truckers is due for release in the European PlayStation Store this Thursday March 11th for a very reasonable £2.39. The official game of the award-winning HISTORY channel TV series, Ice Road Truckers features the death-defying everyday feats of the real-life 18-wheeler truck drivers whose business it is to haul their massive trailers for days on end along the treacherous ice roads north of the Arctic Circle.

normal-tanks-1

Following on from our previous news story this week, Beatshapers has confirmed that Normal Tanks will be its next mini, and that the game is due for release on March 18th in the European store, with the North American release date to be announced soon. This is what Beatshapers had to say about the game in their press release:

“Normal Tanks is a fast-paced multi-directional top-down arcade shooter in a tanks universe featuring classic run ‘n’ gun gameplay with three difficulty settings.

There are eight challenging, dynamic and hazardous environments to tackle. Over 30 different enemies including various tanks, helicopters, robots and biomechanical creatures await your challenge! Crash, kill and destroy them all to move forward. By using special power-ups, you can upgrade your tank abilities – cannon, machine gun and armor – to help you progress.”

The online version of the game received an honorable mention at this year’s Independent Game Festival, so it will be interesting to see how well it transfers over to the PSP and PS3. Liking the look of those explosions though!

Some great detective work by Polish PSP website PSP Team has unearthed details and possibly a You Tube video of a forthcoming new mini to be published by BreakQuest developer Beatshapers. PSP Team has spotted a PEGI rating for a PSP Go game called Normal Tanks by Beatshapers, which is rated for ages 7 and up by PEGI, and which is “an action packed overhead shooter” according to the game’s website.  There’s been no official confirmation about Normal Tanks from Beatshapers so far, but a little Ukrainian birdie may have hinted to us that the PSP Team story is right on the money. ;-)  Either way, expect an announcement soon from Beatshapers about a new mini, which may possibly involve tanks. Normal ones.

Following hot on the shuffling, groaning heels of its Age of Zombies announcement, Halfbrick has just announced its fourth mini, Rocket Racing, due for release at the end of February in the US for $4.99. The game first appeared on Xbox Live Indie Games last year, and now makes its way onto PSP and PS3 as a mini. Currently there are zero decent racing minis, but pretty much everything Halfbrick puts out is quality, and I really like the look of the trailer, reminds me of Micro Machines!

Just Add Water, the Yorkshire, UK, developer behind PSP and PS3 game Gravity Crash, has just announced that it is in the process of developing a minis series called Vektar, featuring minis that will all be based on a particular visual style. The hint is in the name, apparently. Hmm.

According to a news post on Just Add Water’s website, the first game in the series will be a “rhythm/puzzle game” called Vektar Beat, which is due for release in late April/early May. At present that’s pretty much all the information there is on the game, but JAW says it will be posting a development diary on its site as soon as possible, including some screenshots hopefully. Joystiq has also posted a brief news story about Vektar Beat, including exclusive information that JAW plans on only charging around $1 for the game, which is great news if the company is able to pull it off.

How does the idea of a Halfbrick Zombie-blasting game grab ya? By the neck? Yes me, too! Fantastic news from the folks at Halfbrick, they’ve got another mini on the way, and it looks pretty awesome. This is what Halfbrick had to say about their forthcoming opus in possibly the funniest press release I’ve read in a long time:

“We didn’t want to kill zombies in the usual way. We didn’t want to survive a deadly undead army in the ruins of some scary-ass town. We wanted to travel through time and shoot zombie dinosaurs and mummies and junk. So we created Age of Zombies!”

The press release goes on to explain that the Halfbrick team actually travelled back in time, like, for real, in the interests of research, visiting ancient Japanese villages and the pyramids in Egypt. So dedicated, we owe them our thanks, those brave boys and girls.

Now they are back in 2010, and about to unleash Age of Zombies and time-travelling zombie-hunting hero Barry Steakfries on the world.

Age of Zombies will be available on February 25th, for $4.99, so looks like the US store will be getting another cool mini!
