Top User-Rated North American Minis—September 2011

You know what we think, as we’ve reviewed every title. But what do users think? Thanks to user ratings, we can see what the general population feels about each title. This is a list of all the titles scoring a 4 (out of 5) or higher, with a minimum of 40 ratings.
I did this once last year but then had a problem with my computer and Media Go, so I couldn’t see the ratings anymore. But that is fixed.
Angry Birds – 4.75
Who’s That Flying?! – 4.74
Arctic Adventures – 4.63

European list coming soon!
I’ve only played one game in the top 10 and there is not one mention of Pix ‘N Love Rush. People have poor taste in games.
Linked to previous post and altered tag and category to match it.
@Freelance, thanks for your appreciation of Pix’n Love Rush.
Pix’n Love Rush was offered at no additional cost to all PlayStation Plus subscribers during a limited time. Most downloads come from there, rather than from individual sales. Then, unavoidably, many people who were not that much attracted to the game downloaded it because it was ‘free’, then didn’t like it and gave it a bad rating.
This phenomenon is consistent across all games that have benefited from this promotion in the PlayStation Store. It can also be noticed on Apple’s AppStore, where there are free ‘Lite’ versions and paid versions of many games: paid versions often get much higher ratings.
Well, to be fair, there’s a couple of games in the above list that have benefited from the PS+ promotion and still got high ratings – which they fully deserve.
So, let’s replace “this phenomenon is consistent across all games…” with “this phenomenon is consistent across MANY games…”
.
Angry Birds #1 despite he absolutely terrible port?
*throws up*
Pix ‘N Love Rush just barely missed my list, it has a rating of 3.93
And that version of Angry Birds is the new fixed version. The previous, buggy version had a lower rating…
…of 4.39
So feel free to throw up again.
We got 3 in there? And Cubixx is better than Age of Zombies?
I’m happy with that!
You guys REALLY have no idea how much seeing Angry Birds on top sickens me. All the hard work that the developers but into original minis, all the hard work that guys like Sanuk Games put into high quality ports, only to have their games beat out by a badly ported POS.
As someone who loves games, seeing that travesty on top just breaks my heart.
I disagree with many average user ratings for things on PSN, to the point that I don’t pay much attention to them as far as influencing purchasing decisions. However, they are useful as an indicator of what your consumer base thinks of your product–a low rating could be an indicator that you marketed to the wrong crowd, for example.
It is mildly amusing, though, when you see a highly rated dynamic PS3 theme that is essentially just a looping piece of some random video footage you might find on YouTube. Some people have a very low threshold for satisfaction.
That list just reminds me that people have very different tastes than mine. Mind you I get the feeling that many people can’t think for themselves and just rate games the way they think everyone else wants them rated based on hype. Kind of like how on some sites (Xbox Live for example), games get rated highly BEFORE they are even released by fans. In some cases having hundreds of 5 star votes months before release. Just pathetic.
…and yes seeing Angry Birds at the top makes me… well… angry. Mostly disgusted though. Can we have a game at the top that isn’t over hyped and broken?
considering the fact that Angry birds needs to be REPURCHASED again after switching developers it really piss me off. oh, i think we need a list for underappreciated games so everybody can try it and maybe like it too. on another note: my reaction to AB on top….*head explodes*
sniper712, according to this thread in our forum, at least for one of our users, he didn’t need to repurchase Angry Birds in order to get the Rovio version of the game. It just appeared on its own as an “already purchased” item for him (of course, the save file of the Chillingo version was incompatible).
@onmode-ky
thanks man, it sucks that i probably need to restart from beginning. I’ll check it next time I get on PSN (which has been about a month).
I own 5 out of the 10 (NOT including Angry Birds, lol) I also rate all the minis I own a 5 (even if I don’t particulary like it) on the PS Store.
