SNK Classics Becoming Minis on July 19th

snk-playmore

We’ve seen SNK arcade games get released as retail titles, in compilations sold at retail, as downloadable titles as part of the NEOGEO Station, and finally now as Minis. Many of these were supposed to be released in the (apparently) aborted SNK Arcade Classics Vol. 0 compilation, rated by the ESRB years ago.

They will be priced $3 each, with discounts for PS+ members. G1M2 is apparently handling the conversion, so they should offer all sorts of options, like their Data East Minis did. They are mostly quite old (before 1985), and most seem to be shooting games of some kind, but one is a platformer and one a maze game.

The list of games to be released (screens after break):

Athena
Guerrilla War
HAL 21
Ikari Warriors
Marvin’s Maze
Ozma Wars
Sasuke vs. Commander
Vanguard

    Hehe, calligraphy game. :)

In case anyone thought JeremyR was being serious, Sasuke vs. Commander is actually a vertical shooter. The kanji on fire in the background is the Kyoto daimonji, part of a famous Japanese festival.

    Ikari Warriors! YAY!

  7. JeremyR says:

Sorry, no Burger Time. The Data East games were Lock N Chase, Bump N Jump, and Express Raider

SNK Arcade Classics Vol. 0 was not aborted, at least not in Japan. but yeah, being rated by the ESRB doesn’t automatically mean being released. Darius Burst and R-Type Tactics II were rated ages ago, did you guys see them? well NOT ME.

  9. onmode-ky says:

I’m pretty sure JeremyR only meant aborted in the US. We (including him) have discussed the Japanese release in the forum here before.

I’m still disappointed in Square Enix for not releasing DariusBurst in the US. And, I find it odd that Irem heavily advertises R-Type Command II in their North American PS Home spaces but seems not to be actually releasing it here.

  10. JeremyR says:

This really isn’t a worldwide blog, it covers N. America and Europe/Australia/NZ pretty specifically.

Anyway, it’s really puzzling though when something gets rated and doesn’t get released, because it has to be pretty much close to being done to send them the tape of the gameplay, and it costs not a small amount of money (as far as I am concerned anyway) to get them rated.

  11. Jasper Nikki says:

That’s a lot of Minis to be reviewed. Well, since these arcade classics are JeremyR’s forte, this is all on him. LOL.

  12. Tyrael87 says:

Square Enix? Darius Burst? you mean Taito. :P

  13. Tyrael87 says:

oh damn, i completely forgout about S.E. and Taito being together… sorry!
