Sanuk Games Releases Presentation for Drums Challenge

Not content just to release a trailer for their next Mini, Drums Challenge, Sanuk Games has released a short video presentation on the title, explaining just how it’s played.

As you might guess, it’s a rhythm game based on hitting drums. Looks fairly complicated (challenging, even), with 10 different spots to hit, using the D-pad, shoulder buttons, and the face buttons. It has a variety of music styles, though it seems mostly jazz-oriented.

More info from the press release below:

· 8 drum kits and styles: Jazz, Blues, Funk, Country, Metal, Punk Rock, Latin and Reggae!
· 25 drum battles with different rhythms and progressive difficulty,
· Bronze, silver and gold medals to collect for each battle (exclusively on PlayStation Minis),
· A freestyle drum kit with 11 instruments, allowing you to drum to your own beat! Instruments in the freestyle drum kit get unlocked as you progress through the game.

The price will be set at $2.49, €1.99 and £1.74.

The price is definitely right. I’ll pick this up for sure.

I normally don’t play music games, but this looks like fun. SG is out for the minis crown, Keep ‘em coming Yan and company!

Ha, Yan underestimates my ability to make myself look like an idiot. You don’t know the power of the dork side! I won’t let his game stand in my way!

  7. WMH says:

    I like it!

  8. @onmode-ky “the power of the dork side” – nice one :)

  9. Wombat says:

It’s probably just me, but actually I don’t get the gameplay:

@Yan, how do you know in advance, what drums to hit?
You don’t “see it coming” as in Guitar Hero, right?

Or do you see a preview and then repeat after it?

    ( For that price I might take a chance :-) )

  10. @Wombat, yes, that’s how it works.
In each round, you hear your opponent’s drum sequence, then you repeat it in rhythm.
Unlike most rhythm games, Drums Challenge uses your listening and memorizing skills rather than your capability to read a visual timeline.

Enjoyed the iOS version awhile ago, not sure if I’ll buy it again though.

  12. WMH says:

Yan is also pretty awesome. I bet that dude could sell sand in the desert!

  13. Wombat says:

    Thanks Yan, for your explanation.

After Sid’s hint I actually tried the iOS Version and it really is fun.
I must admit, i am curious: The PSP version might be a bit harder to take…

    Good luck.
