Duæl Invaders Trailer Released

We’ve seen screenshots of Laughing Jackal’s upcoming Duæl Invaders, which features rather unique gameplay for a retro space shooter, but the trailer gives a much better feel of how it works than just still images.

Instead of one ship at the bottom or side of the screen, there’s a ship on each side. This lets two people play, presumably each controlling one end of the PSP. Grip Games actually did something similar in Tetroid, part of their 5-in-1 Arcade Hits. How single players will cope remains to be seen.

A little late on the draw there Jeremy! :)

I know, I know. I would have done it earlier but I try to space out the posts. We had the reviews on Monday, then the store update on Tues/Weds, then the Twist & Match trailer on Wed, the contest on Thursday.

    Hey guys,

    Thanks for the push!

“How single players will cope remains to be seen.”

    A fair comment.

The whole game came out of my brain based on the old game and watch style games where you had controls at each end. I had a game of Pacman where one of you was Pacman and the other was a Ghost and my twin brother and I sank hours into it when we were around 7 or 8 years old.

I wanted to get back to that kind of simple gaming, where you’re forced close together with your opponent (which is always the best kind of competition).

The whole skew and chaining thing was borne out of making things manageable for one person. If you obey the principles of skew things become easier as one of your hands becomes the aggressor while the other is solely charged with stopping a ship from dying. So, it’s not so bad – at least that was the feedback here.

The whole project took about 10 weeks to finish all-in-all, from ‘What if there was a two player shooter on PSP?’ to the finished product.

I hope you guys like it – and I REALLY hope you try it in both single and multiplayer when the review comes. ;D

It’s the simplest, most back-to-basics thing we’ve done so far, which has been a change, but it certainly had its own unique set of challenges. ;)

    Sorry, typo. I’ll try again:

Awesome concept that I am surprised hasn’t been done yet. I will get this and hope the AI is fun to play with. I’ll probably never get the chance to play anybody on it.

Single player, I’d try have 2 modes, one where the players controls both ships and another one similar to Space Invaders.
