SteamPirates Mini Due Early 2010
Slide To Play yesterday published an exclusive preview of the latest game in the works from Luc Bernard and his Oyaji Games studio, the team behind popular iPhone app Mecho Wars. In a recent podcast, Luc told the website that SteamPirates features a mix of “fat cats, pugs and pirates”! He went on to describe the game as “probably one of the most ridiculous ideas ever!”
Further elaborating, Bernard said that SteamPirates would include “gigantic ship battles” and the stabbing of fat cats (not sure I like that bit!), and that “skeleton mermaids” would be the primary villains, as he finds them scary! Bernard described SteamPirates as an “RPG-platformer-everything,” so not really narrowing it down, then!
According to Bernard, the battles in the game will be turn-based, but the rest of the action, when you are moving around the environments, will be side-scrolling. He compared the way in which you switch between characters in the game to the old Amiga classic Lost Vikings.
One thing’s for sure, it all sounds very intriguing, if not more than a little bit mad, and the screenshots certainly look very stylish. Pocket Gamer has also previewed the game, as well as stating that it has now been officially announced as a mini as well as an iPhone app, with both due for release in early 2010.

Sprite graphics ftw. Like the screenshot there.
2010 hmm.. Gonna be awhile.
Yeah, it is going to be a long wait. I can’t wait to hear more about this title. Hopefully there will be some more previews up soon as the development progresses.
We’re getting closer to a C.M. Coolidge RPG. Someday!
