First Screenshot of Duæl Invaders

DualInvaders First Image

A few days ago, Laughing Jackal posted a work-in-progress screenshot of their upcoming title, Duæl Invaders, on their blog.

Even though it’s a work-in-progress shot and apparently features some placeholder art, it clearly shows what the gameplay is like. But, it opens up more questions, like how do the controls work? Clearly each player ship must be independent, as you can see they are in different locations vertically, and there are differing amounts of shots on each side.

Well, I confirmed with Laughing Jackal that you hold the PSP horizontally in single-player mode, but it looks like each person gets one end of the PSP and holds it vertically in two-player mode. Don’t know what each player gets for controls, though.

It would be weird trying to play this with two players on a PS3.

Some of the Sony of Japan Minis worked like that.

And is it just me, or does it look like there is a Blue Jay (the bird) in the background of the right/blue side?

Heh, I didn’t see that before, but I see it now. Maybe LJ is experimenting with subliminal advertising. I want to buy a blue jay now.

Yes, some of the “Feel for Two” $2 Sony Minis worked like that, one player holding each end of the PSP; I think those were PSP-only Minis, too (though not so in Europe).

    Hey guys,

Glad to see the game bumped onto the front page! :)

The controls are split between both sides of the PSP as you say. More detail will be revealed at the end of the week… :D

Art looks quite different already – especially the backgrounds. You’ll see! ;)
