N.O.V.A. headed to Minis (or PSP at least)

After a long drought, it looks like Gameloft is back in the Minis business. They announced on their facebook page that they are bringing over their HALO clone, N.O.V.A. to the “PSP Go”. They still seem confused that PSP download games work both on the PSP Go and the regular PSP, but it’s one of their better games, so we can excuse that.
Join the fight for mankind’s survival against the aggressive aliens known as Judgers in this revolutionary sci-fi FPS. With Earth no longer able to sustain life, huge artificial satellites called “near-orbitals” were constructed for people to live on. To protect themselves, the near-orbitals banded together to form N.O.V.A., the Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance. Against his will, retired marine hero Kal Wardin is forcefully returned to active duty to prevent mankind’s annihilation.
- An epic single-player campaign with 13 levels set in the jungle, snow, spaceship, bunker and an alien city
- 6 weapons: Assault rifle, shotgun, sniper rifle, handgun, rocket launcher and plasma gun – plus grenades & machine gun turrets in certain levels
- Full 3D rendered environments enhanced with highly detailed graphics
The iPhone version had online play, which presumably will be chucked if this is a Mini. On the other hand, perhaps if it turns out to be a regular PSN title (like UNO) it will be kept.
(hat tip to ichybaca from our forums for spotting this)

Only handheld FPS I’ve ever liked and thats coming from someone who tends to despise Gamelofts work on the iPhone.
The PSP has never been the best platform for FPS games because of its lack of a second joystick.
I wonder how it’ll compare to the iPhone version.
yeah, I actually dont really like gameloft, too.
but this game looks nice, and frankly, I dont mind using the face buttons to aim on the psp like some people do, so I’m actually looking forward to this.
I just hope it runs better than Hero of Sparta did. That was awfully choppy when I tried it. Different sort of game, obviously, but still, a bit worrisome.
ok this is a mini. because there are just 13 levels. That gamescom dude said that he played this game so…
This game is playable on the GamesCom this weekend. I saw it but didn’t play it. They had multiple minis there, but most of them didn’t work (well, the game probably did, but the PSPs didn’t).
How well does the iPhone play without any analogue joysticks at all?
There is a chance for the PSP (with at least one joystick) to have better controls than the iPhone version…
Looks really awesome! Also, a request for the future reviewer. Please let us know if controls are customizable. It was left out of the Dinosaur hunter review and after buying it I was very disappointed to find I could no invert the aiming stick. It’s a shame too because I always use the “turok” style control scheme (stick to aim, buttons to move/strafe) and was so happy that Dinosaur Hunter had it.
Just a suggestion…
@Volcane
The iPhone uses a touch screen joystick
@volcane
You’d be surprised how well touch screen controls work for FPS games on the iPhone. Of course that always depends if the dev. knows what they are doing.
Like Balrog said, it has a touch screen joystick, plus you also drag your finger on the screen to move the camera/your head around.
Better than anything I’ve played on the PSP or DS(except for Metroid Prime Hunters)
Gameloft makes a lot of clones. Their Pokemon clone on DS is servicable, but controls horribley. I wouldn’t mind that being ported over since 2D games are rare on the PSP, let alone a monster catching one.
They also have knockoffs of Resident Evil, and Gran Turismo in their catalog. Considering no RE exists for PSP, wouldn’t be the worst idea to bring it over.
@Balrog / @SiDCrAzY
Cool – sounds like an innovative control scheme. I’d be keen to try it out but I don’t have an iPhone unfortunately
it’s not really “innovative”. just about every game on the system uses a “touchscreen joystick”, and frankly, I’m among those (and I know I’m not alone) who hate it.
Got to play this at Gamescom while waiting to play God of War: Ghost of Sparta. I already have the iPad version and that controls like a dream. Without the second analog stick and no magnetism in the aiming, I found this difficult to control on the PSP. I will of course probably get this when it comes out for further analysis, but thats what I got from it at Gamescom anyhow

Perhaps they could implement an aiming feature similar to that in the PSP game Resistance Retribution. In this FPS there was an aiming box that surrounded your reticule. The auto-aiming function wold target anything in the box when you were firing, which helped with the lack of second analog stick.
