Family Games- Pen & Paper Edition– Soon?

mainmenu

Icon Games Entertainment listed this game as a PSP mini in their website, so there is no doubt that this one will be. Looking at the ESRB site, it already has a rating. This game might come soon, and we are still waiting for a word from its developers. Family Games- Pen and Paper Edition has the following games in its roster:

  • Squares (Dots)
  • Nine Men’s Morris (Mill)
  • Safe Cracker
  • Matchsticks
  • Noughts & Crosses (Tic-Tac-Toe)
  • 4 In-A-Row
  • BattleFleet
  • Hangman

Considering it’s from Icon Games, no, probably not soon. They do their games on the Wii first, then get around to porting them, eventually. Maybe. Possibly Presumably we will get Arcade Air Hockey and Bowling next, or just possibly Stunt Cars. (Those were initially announced as being out by the end of last year…). And then there is Soccer Bashi, another breakout clone, which is due for the Wii soon. I guess there’s a chance for that on the PSP by 1Q 2011.

I think it’s cheaper to get them rated for every possible platform at once (or at least easier). The Flying Hamster is for the PSP first, but got rated on a bunch of platforms.

Damn JR – lot of hate there!

Family Games is currently at the final test stage, so close. Arcade Air Hockey & Bowling is currently in with Sony, and Bashi not far behind.

Actually costs-wise there are no differences in ESRB charges with rating all together, or adding additional platforms later. The ESRB is cool in that regard – you just have to fill out an additional platform form – unlike PEGI which charge per platform.

I should add we are moving towards PSP being our lead platform now, for future stuff.

    @JeremyR
What do you have against Icon Games?

It’s not hate, but at the same time, they did announce 4 PSP titles a year ago (part of the infamous 50 titles that Sony said were due out by the end of 2009).

Fast forward a year later, they’ve released one title out of the four. Which is better than some of the other 50 on the list (which I guess are never coming), but not great. So I was just being realistic, if a bit snarky, about how much their games have been delayed (in particular Stunt Cars, which was one of the better looking out of the 50 and one I was looking forward to)

Basically they dropped the Mini platform in favor of WiiWare, then found out that sales of WiiWare games weren’t so hot after all (especially combined with Nintendo’s minimum sales thresholds) and now are getting back on Minis after seeing the grass wasn’t greener on other side.

How are WiiWare and DSiWare sales in comparison to Minis sales, anyway? I don’t have my own Wii or DSi/XL, so I don’t keep up on their newsfronts. However, I’ve generally gotten a vibe of neither service doing as well as Nintendo might have hoped.

I think this one looks quite fun. It would be great if the graphics are semi-realistic, kind of like actual pen & paper (as in the image above) or the art style of Fly Fu…

  8. richicon says:

Jeremy – no, we were doing WiiWare before the announcement. We started WiiWare development several months before Minis, so it was absolutely not a ‘grass is greaner’ thing.

We had to finish the WiiWare titles first before we had people available to start on Minis.

    Richicon,

Any closer to any dates (guideline or firm) yet for this or the hockey/bowling.

    Best Regards
