Sony Europe Declares February Minis Month!

fieldrunners-1Not only is February the month of love with Valentine’s Day and all, it’s also now the month of minis love, as SCEE has declared February “Minis Month”. So what exactly does this mean, I hear you ask? Does it mean that your PSP (or PS3!) gets to wear a fancy sash and ride in a parade? Probably not, although it should. What it actually means, according to this announcement on the PlayStation Blog from Adam Grant, PSP European Product Manager, is that throughout the month there will be lots of minis news and previews on the EU blog, plus free downloads, minis competitions and special minis features (sadly February is just another month on the US PlayStation Blog, with no extra minis love :-( )

It’s all good stuff, but perhaps the most important move of all is the special minis sale in the PlayStation Store, which starts with the store update today (February 4th) and continues until February 18th. Here’s the list of all the new prices:

  • Fieldrunners €4.99/£3.99 now €3.99/£3.49
  • Kahoots €2.99/£2.99 now €1.99/£1.74
  • Vempire €2.99/£2.99 now €1.99/£1.74
  • BreakQuest €2.99/£2.99 now €1.99/£1.74
  • Pinball Fantasies €4.99/£3.99 now €3.99/£3.49
  • Bloons €3.99/£3.49 now €2.49/£1.99
  • Mahjongg Artifacts: Chapter 2 €2.99/£2.99 now €1.99/£1.74
  • Dracula – Undead Awakening €2.99/£2.99 now €1.99/£1.74

They’ve certainly picked some good ones to discount, Fieldrunners, Dracula – Undead Awakening and BreakQuest in particular are “must-haves”, although everyone will have their own favourites. Shame the sale only lasts for two weeks though!

Most of the minis on list I bought before, for me is this week PSN update very bad :-/

I was really hoping we’d get that sale in NA. I’d buy most of those for those prices.

djax, i dont see how you can say that scee is terrible all the time, then something like this comes along and you still call it bad, i think you should at least try to be happy.
its a shame that minis month isnt universal…. maybe next year.

I would pick up almost all of those minis for those prices. Damn US store is really falling behind the EU store in terms of actually promoting its products and tossing out incentives to consumers.

Some very good prices, indeed. I’d say skip Breakquest, though. I love arkanoid-type games, but the controls in Breakquest are just busted. The paddle skids after you release, voiding the sort of exact science control you need for a game like that. So while I would love to love it, it’s not playable unfortunately.

My tip is definately get Kahoots. The game is fun and quirky, and a steal for that price. Even if you don’t have a PSP, it plays well on the PS3, too. (doesn’t look good, however, but that’s another matter) None of the others are must-owns in my opinion, however, some of them are very good buys at that price point. I find with minis it’s best to buy just from general feeling towards the genre, especially since most are puzzle game and wholly subjective experiences. I’ll say this, I’ve played all of them, none of them are busted (except Breakquest).

  6. JeremyR says:

Supposedly they released an updated version of Breakquest in December which improved the controls (mentioned on their blog section of their website).

  7. Maura says:

I didn’t find that with the BreakQuest controls I must say, was playing the heck out of it last weekend, no problem at all!

  8. djax says:

In the BreakQuest, with the d-pad you moving slow, and with the analog you are moving fast…

  9. Maura says:

Yes I agree with that djax, you definitely notice the difference between the d-pad and the analog stick.
